Band Name Origins:
- Hey, Bruce Dickensen is from Manor Park, East London, and a avid West Ham fan. They chose the name because West Ham Utd are known as the IRONS (also the hammers) and IRON MAIDEN sounded like a good metal name, incorporating "the Irons". Submitted by: Geforce
- Although there was a torturing device kown as the iron maiden, the band's name was more directly taken from the 1939 movie "The Man In The Iron Mask." (Source: alt.rock-n-roll.metal.ironmaiden FAQ) Submitted by: Bill M.

Funny Lyrics:
"22 Acacia Avenue"
The Funny Lyrics: Stop all this screwing!
Why They're Funny: Basically this whole song is directed at Charlotte the Harlot, a prostitute and trying to get her to 'mend her ways', so to speak. It's just a very funny line.

Real Places Mentioned in Songs:
"22 Acacia Avenue"
The Lyrics: If you're feeling down, depressed and lonely, I know a place that we can go, 22 Acacia Avenue, Meet a lady that I know.
Why: Acacia Avenue/Road/Street etc. is a term used to describe a typical London suburb (e.g. Bananaman lived at 29 Acacia Road.) The person in the song was a friend of Bruce Dickinson, Maiden's lead singer, and a, er, prostitute.

Hidden Messages:
"The Number of the Beast"
Another Derek Riggs addition on the cover. Look very closely at the people dancing in the flames--Not all are dancing. There are quite a few there in various sexual positions.

"Powerslave"
The old Derek Riggs Maiden covers always have something hidden. The Powerslave cover has Mickey Mouse in the hieroglyphs. You have to look very closely and carefully for it. It is located in the bottom right corner just above the sphinx on the left and beneath the first jackal. Either check it out on the original vinyl or on the cd cover (you'll need good eyes or a magnifying glass). You might see it on a very good scan on the web.
