Fun Music Information -> Styx

This is the most recent information about Styx that has been submitted to amIright. If we have more information about Styx, then we provide a link to the section where it appears (the actual page whenever possible).

Band Name Origins:

  • Yes, it was the "only one that none of [them] hated." Which is ironic, as Styx means hate in Greek. Submitted by: Nick
  • They were called the Tradwinds before. But when they got a record deal with Wooden Nickel Records, their record producer came up with a list of 100 names. They picked Styx because it was the only one none of them hated. Submitted by: Brandon

The Funny Lyrics:
I like fast food, the burgers always taste the same.
No snotty waiters, escargot or beaujolais
Why They're Funny:
I just think this lyric is totally random, and hilarious. Does it really need explaining? It's just funny how he thinks that fast food burgers always taste the same, because they don't. But ya can't blame him for wanting it instead of the latter stuff.

Domo arigato, mr. roboto,

Backwards Messages:

At 1:08 (backwords), there is the start of what sounds like a backwards message, Incomprehendable (possible other language?) until 1:18 (backwards). It says "Satan is mercy,Save me Satan,Save Me now" Creepy,eh?
Submitted by: Quake Storm
"Just Fell In"
The beginning of the song is similar to their earlier "Heavy Metal Poisoning", in that both songs start out with backmasking. However, in Just Fell In, the message is revealed at the end of the song: "Okay ladies, it's time for your medication!" YOU probably know what the song means......
Submitted by: Drifter27
Forwards: "I tried so hard to make it so" Backwards: "Oooh, Satan moves through our voices". (They hit back at these claims - see "Heavy metal Poisoning".)
Submitted by: A Stranger
"Heavy Metal Poisoning"
The beginning of the tune has a blatant backwards message: "Annuit Coeptis Novus Ordo Seclorum"...a Latin phrase translated as, "God has favored our undertakings, a new order of the ages."
During the guitar solo, another backwards message can be heard. According to the fan site, the voice either says "Satan holds the secrets" or "Sparky holds the secrets". These messages were included as joke by Styx, as they were accused of creating satanic backwards messages in other songs of theirs, such as "Snowblind."
