Repetitive Lyrics:
"Blinded By The Light "
The Repetitive Lyrics: Blinded by the light
revved up like a deuce another runner in the night Why They're Repetitive: Yes, the first lines are the main lines and yes they are repetitive. But this is the actual correct lyrics that then (back in 1976) lead singer, Chris Thompson sang in this remake of The Boss' tune (Springsteen actually wrote them and sang them on his 'Greetings From Asbury Park' lp as, 'Blinded by the light, cut like a deuce, another runner in the night' {that could be considered repetitive as well}. I do believe, if I count correctly Thompson sings these main lines, 14 times! And yes, that could be very repetitive, but otherwise I like this version of the tune. I think part of the problem for many is the confusion they have of hearing revved as 'wrapped' and deuce as a femine hygenie product, and I know others have said this to me, and I agree it does sound that way -- but I don't know if many know the actual lyrics which might make why they are sung this way make more sense. The next three lyrics of the tune are the first to third verse, that doesn't quite make this song totally repetitive. But these lyrics were sung by Thompson but with backing vocals by then drummer, Chris Slade. Chris Slade though repeats these lines near the end of the song, with a little extra added, while Thompson sings the main lyrics. I think part of the problem for many is that they don't know what is being sung. These lyrics are what was printed on the original liner notes for the albums. And perhaps, also it's difficult to determine what was meant by these lyrics. And yes, there is a lot of different meanings floating around. But one would have to Bruce what the song was orginally about (most likely it's about his early attempts at making huge record deals, and achieving musical stardom -- which would make a lot of sense). Of course Mann could have misinterpreted them even more.

Nonsensical Lyrics:
"Blinded By The Light"
The Nonsensical Lyrics: And little Early Purly came by in his curly wurly and asked me if I needed a ride.
Why They're Nonsensical: These are the actual lyrics and also how you spell "Early Purly" and "curly wurly". Of all the nonsensical lyrics in this song, written by Bruce Springsteen but made more absurd by Manfred, this takes the cake. It's not that "Early Purly" or "curly wurly" aren't actually real things, because they are ("Early Purly" is a white flower grown in many gardens -- it's where "Purly" whites with teeth came from and "Curly Wurly" is a type of candy bar still in existence sold by Marathon candy company in many parts of the world, although "Curly Wurly" candy bars aren't as popular as they were in the 1970's when this song was written and first popularized), no that isn't the problem. The problem and the nonsense for this song and line is: How would a flower ride a candy bar and ask anyone for a ride (unless it was a metaphysical reference out of The Boss in regards to in his adolescence eating candy bars to get a sugar rush and then ending up having acne?)

Dirty Lyrics:
"Blinded By The Light"
The Dirty Lyrics: And some fresh-sown moonstone
Was playing with his frozen zone Reminding him of romance Why They're Dirty: I think I knew right away that this stanza, found in the third verse of the lp version of Manfred Mann's Earth Band's version of the song (Bruce Springsteen put this stanza in the second verse in the original version), was about male masturbation (and actually it is the only stanza in the whole entire lyrics of the song that would and could be about male masturbation). There is no hiding the fact that this stanza is definitely about male masturbation. But unless you listen to 7:07 lp version you wouldn't ever hear this stanza (the single edit had them chopped off). Bruce Springsteen's original 1973 version had this stanza slightly reworded, but again you can tell this stanza is about male masturbation even in The Boss' original version: 'And some fresh-sown moonstone, Was messin' with his frozen zone, to remind him of the feeling of romance'

The Dirty Lyrics: In the dumps with the mumps
As the adolescent pumps His way into his hat Why They're Dirty: I'm not sure I ever found out the lyrics were dirty. But many people are of the belief that this stanza found in the second verse of Manfred Mann's Earth Band's version of the song (in Bruce Springsteen's original version these lyrics are found in the first verse) is one of three lyrics of the song that point out this tune is definitely about masturbation. Although, as has been pointed out to me recently, at the time Bruce wrote the tune he was in bed sick and many people believe with the mumps. So, that factoid would take the meaning of this stanza in a totally different direction.

Scary Song Lyrics:
"Blinded By The Light"
The Lyrics: With a boulder on my shoulder feelin' kinda older I tripped the merry-go-round
Why: Of all the weird lyrics in this version of The Boss' tune, these are the most unnerving, if not downright scary (even though I and others will still like this version). After all how many people really want to go around carrying a "boulder on their shoulder" (and that would make me feel older; unless it's the proverbial non-existent kind that many do) and I don't know how many folks really want to "trip a merry-go-round".

Why: Manfred Mann's Earth Band, keyboardist Manfred Mann's third and current group that he leads has in it's title the planet that we all live on, "Earth". Manfred Mann's Earth Band's most productive years for chart success was the 1970's with the #1 tune, "Blinded By The Light" (written by Bruce Springsteen), but Manfred Mann's Earth Band's has continued to record (although with several member changes, except for Mann himself) until today (the group also continues to tour, especially in Europe).

Super Long Pop Songs:
"Blinded By The Light" Length: 7:07
Although this was another edited tune (one reworked by Manfred Mann's Band that was written by Bruce "The Boss" Springsteen) for original single airplay at top 40 stations back in 1976 - 77 (to 3:45), the 7:07 album ("The Roaring Silence") cut was played a great deal on many radio stations (including AM top 40 stations, but especially many of the by then more prominent FM stations) and continues to be the more prominent version played by most radio stations. (The edit for the single by Mann is painfully way to obvious by most listeners).
