Music Quotes:
Critics don't buy records. They get 'em free. I may be helping to bring harmony between people through my music. I'm a musician at heart, I know I'm not really a singer. I couldn't compete with real singers. But I sing because the public buys it.. Mona Lisa? What kind of title is that for a song? The people who know nothing about music are the ones always talking about it. Submitted by: LucidLupin

"The Christmas Song"
Misheard Lyrics: Jack Frost roasting on an open fire
Chestnuts nipping at your toes Original Lyrics: Chestnuts roasting on an open fire
Jack Frost nipping at your toes |
Story about this misheard lyric by: Peter For some reason, every Christmas season going back into the 1970's when I was a child, there is at least once where I will be singing this song (or at least thinking of doing so) with these funny (but rather cruel to Jack Frost, and those chestnuts nipping on people's toes, have me worried) reverse lyrics. |

Better Lyrics:
Pecans burning on an open fire.
Green snot dripping down your nose.
Nusing homes, where the old have retired.
And kids dress up and freeze their toes.

And kids dress up and freeze their toes.

Chestnuts roasting on an open fire

Yuletide carols being sung by a choir

| "Unforgettable"
The Nonsensical Lyrics: Unforgettable
that's what you are Why They're Nonsensical: Why's he telling her she's unforgettable? Are they about to split up?Amicably maybe?Perhaps they're already split up and he's simply reminiscing? If that's so why would he say she thinks he's unforgettable too?He also talks of her being unforgettable near or far-A sign a split has or will indeed take place? You see the whole problem lies with that word Unforgettable. You simply wouldn't call your lover that in the normal, steady flow of an ongoing relationship, which I'm assuming Nat is on about here.He also spouts the silly line-Like a song of love that clings to me-Talk about a number you'd prefer to FORGET.

Inappropriate Lyrics:
"Too Young"
The Inappropriate Lyrics: And then, someday they may recall
We were not too young at all. Why They're Inappropriate: In gereral, I've always liked this song. But in these lines is a case of using a word inaccurately in order to make a rhyme. The whole song generally is about "they" (perhaps the parents of the young lovers) thinking the lovers were too young to know the meaning of love. In these lines, the singer contemplates that maybe someday "they" will finally recognize or acknowledge (for the first time) that the lovers in question really weren't too young. Trouble is, that isn't what "recall" means. "Recall" means to recollect something that one was previously aware of, not to recognize or acknowledge something for the first time.

Dated Lyrics:
"Route 66"
The Dated Lyrics: Get your kicks on Route 66.
Why They're Dated: No doubt the most fabled highway route in U.S. History, U.S. Route 66 stretched from Chicago to Los Angeles. But now U.S. 66 per se no longer exists, nor does any other single route number traverse the same legendary route. To travel the same general corridor on today's modern highways means following Interstate 55 from Chicago to St. Louis, then Interstate 44 from St. Louis to Oklahoma City, then Interstate 40 from there to Barstow, California, then Interstate 15 and/or 215 from there to San Bernardino or Ontario, and finally Interstate 10 from there on to Los Angeles. That combination of routes could scarcely be the basis ot a similarly catchy song!

Real Places Mentioned in Songs:
"Route 66"
The Lyrics: It winds from Chicago to LA, More than two thousand miles all the way. Get your kicks on route sixty-six.
Now you go through Saint Looey Joplin, Missouri, And Oklahoma City is mighty pretty, You see Amarillo, Gallup, New Mexico, Flagstaff, Arizona, Don't forget Winona, Kingsman, Barstow, San Bernardino Won't you get hip to this timely tip. When you make that California trip Get your kicks on route sixty-six. Why: Nat King Cole's classic Route 66 (written by Bobby Troup) is a classic jazz # from the early 1950's (although originally released by the King Cole Trio in the late 1940's). It details an old highway that somewhat still exist (in spots) that was the main way people traveled by car from Chicago to Los Angeles before the interstate system that started in the late 1950's by President Dwight D. Eisenhower. Highlighted in the tune is Chicago, Los Angeles, Saint Louis, Missouri, Joplin, Missouri, Oklahoma City, Amarillo, Texas, Gallup, New Mexico, Flagstaff, Arizona, Winona, Arizona, Kingsman, California, Barstow, California and San Bernardino, California and the state of California itself. Although the route barely exist anymore, the song itself has remained a classic to today and apparently internationally liked. The song itself spawned a TV show of the late 1950's/early 1960's. In the late 1980's, English pop/rock band Depeche Mode would do a remake of "Route 66" and make it a very popular new wave/alternative tune.

| "All Over The World"
The Lyrics: Lovers can be found in foggy London town, in Rome or Peru.
Even in Damascus, lovers never ask us what they should do. You don't have to park in Paris after dark to know that it's true: Love is a wonderful thing! Why: Refers to the country of Peru, and to the cities of London, UK; Rome, Italy; Damascus, Syria; and Paris, France.
