Band Name Origins:
- In 1962, What began as a three man Alan Price combo playing Saturday night gigs at Newcastle's Downbeat club, evolved into a group containing, Alan Price,Bryan Chandler,Hilton Valetine. Eric Burdon and John Steel. The club was over a warehouse, and near enough to The Railroad tracks that the passing trains shook the crowded, damp room periodically, but the music made by the combo shook it til closing time. It was a frenetic scene, and it was the beginning of a group that became known as The Animals, not through their own design, but because thats what their audiences began to call them, and they were smart enough to recognize a good thing when it came along. Nonsensical Lyrics:
"House Of The Rising Sun"
The Nonsensical Lyrics: With one foot on the platform
The other foot on the train I'm goin' back to New Orleans To wear that ball and chain Why They're Nonsensical: It is clear from the general context in the song that the singer is not in New Orleans already. And clearly he wouldn't get very far toward New Orleans with one foot on the platform and the other foot on the train (whether the train is moving towards New Orleans or not)!

| "We Gotta Get Out Of This Place"
The Nonsensical Lyrics: We gotta get out of this place,
If it's the last thing we ever do. We gotta get out of this place. Girl, there's a better life for me and you. Why They're Nonsensical: How will there be a better life in the event that that part about "if it's the last thing we ever do" applies?

Real Places Mentioned in Songs:
"San Francisco Night"
The Lyrics: The following program is dedicated to the city and people of San Francisco, who may not know it but they are beautiful and so is their city. This is a very personal song, so if the viewer cannot understand it, particularly those of you who are European residents save up all your bread and fly trans love airways to San Francisco, U.S.A., then maybe you'll understand the song. It will be worth it, if not for the sake of this song but for the sake of your own peace of mind.
Cop's face is filled with hate Heavens above he's on a street called love When will they ever learn Old cop young cop feel alright On a warm San Francisco night The children are cool They don't raise fools It's an American dream Includes Indians too Why: "San Francisco Night" was a 1967 Top Ten hit for the British rock/pop group known as the Animals. But 1967, the only remaining member of the Animals that recorded the #1 1964 version of "The House Of The Rising Sun" was lead singer and songwriter, Eric Burdon. "San Francisco Night" is Eric Burdon's romantizing his visit to San Francisco during the 1967, "Summer Of Love". Besides San Francisco mentioned in the title and the lyrics also mentioned in the tune in the first spoken by Burdon verse (as though Burdon is a television announcer) is the continent of Europe (European) and the country of the United States of America (U.S.A.) and in the fourth and final versed the continent of America (American). The first and fourth verse I have transcribed upabove.

Upbeat Songs With Depressing Lyrics:
"it's my life"
The Lyrics: it's my life, and i'll do what, i want!, don't push me!,it's my mind, and i'll think, what i want!
Why: a rousing melody, concerning a free thinker, telling society, to get off his/her's back!
Submitted by: art
| "Sky Pilot"
The Lyrics: "Soon there'll be blood, and many will die. Mother's and father's back home they will cry."
Why: Song's about a priest who is essentially giving the last rite's to the unlucky fly-boy's who wont return from their bombing mission. An obvious political statement on the current Vietnam situation.
