Original Song Title:
"The House Of The Rising Sun"
Parody Song Title:
"Number Ninety-One"
The Lyrics
There is a house in New Ash Green
It’s numbered ninety-one
And when the sky’s not overcast
It gets a glimpse of sun.
There are buses to Bluewater
At declining frequency,
The social-rented housing stock
Scuppered by the GLC.
I travelled there by British Rail,
For it was a while ago;
There was no delay from autumn leaves
And no forecast of snow.
I had two feet on the platform,
I took some Eccles cakes,
If you should take a pushchair
Then please apply the brakes.
Now the occupants of ninety-one
Were never in distress,
No incidents or criminals
Ever mentioned in the press.
The voices of those residents
Were hardly ever raised,
But conceivably were muted
By the windows double-glazed.
Their dustbin’s near the pavement
On the due determined days.
The residence was well-maintained
And that’s just how it stays.
So that’s the house in New Ash Green
Where nothing has gone wrong,
I should apologise to listeners
For the tedium of this song.
