| "Happy Holidays/The Holiday Season"
The Nonsensical Lyrics: It's the holiday season,
So hoop-de-doo and dickery dock And don't forget to hang up your sock 'Cause just exactly at 12 o'clock He'll be comin' down the chimney down Why They're Nonsensical: Where to begin? 1.) The hoop-de-doo line sounds like he was desperate for a rhyme/filler and threw it in at the last second. 2.) 'Comin' down the chimney down' is a wee bit repetitive. 3.) How is Santa going to be coming down everybody's chimney at exactly 12:00? He can't possibly be ubiquitous!

"It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year"
The Misrhymed Lyrics: It's the most wonderful time of the year.
With the kids jingle-belling And everyone telling you be of good cheer, It's the most wonderful time of the year. It's the hap-happiest season of all. With those holiday greetings and gay happy meetings When friends come to call, It's the hap-happiest season of all. Why They're Misrhymed: Rhyming "year" and "all" with themselves.

"It's The Most Wonderful Time Of The Year"
The Inappropriate Lyrics: There'll be scary ghost stories
Why They're Inappropriate: Ghost stories? On Christmas? Oh wait, there's a segment of Dickens' "A Christmas Carol" in which the protagonist, Ebenezer Scrooge, deals with the Ghosts of Christmas Past, Present, and Future... but ghost stories in general are not usually associated with Christmas; the scariest ones are usually tied in with Halloween!!

"The Most Wonderful Time Of The Year"
The Made Up Words: Mistletoeing
Comments: Lyrics say "There'll be much mistletoeing and hearts will be glowing when loved ones are near." If "mistletoe" were a verb, then "mistletoeing" would be its present participle. But since "mistletoe" is not a verb, there is no such word as "mistletoeing".

"It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year"
The Lyrics: It's the hap-happiest season of all.
Why: I think singing "happiest" for longer sounds better, rather than squeezing in the "hap" bit of "happiest".

"Stranger On The Shore"
The Lyrics: Here I stand, watching the tide roll out,
So all alone and blue, just dreaming dreams of you. I watched your ship as it sailed out to sea, Taking all my dreams and taking all of me. The sighing of the waves, the wailing of the wind, The tears in my eyes burned, pleading, "Oh, love, return!" Oh why, oh why, must I go on like this? Must I just be a lonely stranger on the shore? Why: The uncommonly beautiful melody of this song quite probably achieved its most widespread recognition through the highly successful instrumental version by clarinetist Acker Bilk. That was how I first heard the tune, and my only acquaintance with it for some time. I doubt that I'm alone in being captivated by the enchanting melody, nor in thinking that whatever words (if any) that it might have would be lilting and happy, possibly ecstatically so. But on finally hearing a vocal version, I was astounded to find that it is actually a heart-rending lament about lost love.
