Band Name Origins:
- Just a note: The band's original name NYNUK was chosen by the band's manager (Maurice Starr) as a play on the title of a 1922 faux documentary called "Nanook of the North". Submitted by: memoria
- Manager Maurice Starr originally gave the group the name Nynuk. Nynuk was an exclamation from the Three Stooges and the name of the dog in the movie The Lost Boys, but not even the former members know where Starr came up with this name. When the group signed to Columbia Records, executives insisted that the group get a new name, for obvious reasons. “New Kids On The Block,” an introductory rap co-written by Donnie Wahlberg and Maurice Starr, was one of the first songs recorded. This was suggested and used as the new name although Starr didn’t think it was catchy enough. The five word phrase was later shortened to NKOTB. Submitted by: Suzanne

| "The Right Stuff (You've Got It)"
The Nonsensical Lyrics: I can see it when you walk,
Tell it when you talk, I can see it in everything you do (even when you cough) Why They're Nonsensical: Okay, I was with him up to the cough part, what exactly can you tell by the way someone coughs except that they may have a cold, or smoke too much? Real clever, it screams I'm too dumb to come up with a better rhyme. Break out a thesaurus! Maurice Starr is such a talented lyricist *pffft*

Bad Grammar in Song Lyrics:
"Officially Over"
The Lyrics: It's officially over, it's officially over
There ain't nothing you can say that can fix your wrong Why: Simply said, if there "ain't nothing" there is something, isn't there? (So glad to vent this somewhere, btw) :)

| "Summer Time"
The Lyrics: You wasn't lookin for a man
when you saw me in the sand and Cause we was feeling young love Why: These are just more examples of bad grammar in pop music.
The first lyric obviously should be "You weren't looking for a man when you saw me in the sand but you fell for the boy from the city." The Second lyric should be "Cause we were feeling young love." Submitted by: Celeste

"Milli Vanilli Syndrome"
After Milli Vanilli were exposed as frauds in 1990 tabloids began to dig around to find out who else had fallen prey to Milli Vanilli Syndrome. All lipsyncing accusations fell into the laps of the New Kids after a disgruntled ex-employee accused the group of lip syncing at their concerts. Proctor appeared on the Arsenio Hall show to tell his side of the story. That then manager Maurice Starr was some sort of a musical wizzard and he could imulate any of the New Kids's voices. The New Kids appeared on the Arsenio Hall show a week afterwards to refute the accusations that they lip synced at their concerts by performing live.
