- The band were put together by a panel of record company executives who held a meeting to decide what name to give them. During the meeting someone told the following joke: Q - What's purple and buzzes? A - An electric prune. Everyone found this absolutely hilarious (suffice it to say that more than just coffee had been consumed at this meeting) and decided that this had to be the name of the band. Submitted by: Fletch
