Misheard Lyrics Story:

"Wouldn't It Be Good?"
Misheard Lyrics:
My bolt on spirit is frozen to the core.
Original Lyrics:
My broken spirit is frozen to the core.

Story about this misheard lyric by: Miss R Bicker

I sang it this way for about 2 years. I always wondered what the heck a bolt-on spirit was. I thought it was some bizarre phrase from the 80's that I had totally missed. It sounded like gibberish to me. Then I found out the real lyrics, and it made so much more sense. Boy did I feel pretty stupid!!!

Funny Lyrics:

"Wouldn't It Be Good"
The Funny Lyrics:
You must be joking you don't know a thing about it. You've got no problems I'd stay right there if I were you.
Why They're Funny:
and then he goes on to say 'you wouldn't dream how hard i got it' are you ok nik? what could possibly be troubling this poor, tortured soul. i mean he was pretty famous right? the irony is almost as bad as good charlottes 'lifestyles of the rich and famous' even though he may not be singing about himself, hearing him sing these lyrics is just so sad/absurd i can't help but giggle everytime.

"The Riddle"
The Funny Lyrics:
Near a tree by a river there's a hole in the ground
Where an old man of Aran goes around and around
And his mind is a beakon in the veil of the night
For a strange kind of fashion there's a wrong and a right
Why They're Funny:
This is the chorus of the song. This guy is insane. If you listen to the whole song, there is also a reference to 'seasons of gasoline and gold' Uh, yeah! Let's write songs that make sense maybe?

Nonsensical Lyrics:

"Wouldn't It Be Good"
The Nonsensical Lyrics:
Wouldn't it be good to be on your side
the grass is always greener over there
wouldn't it be good if we could live without a
care?
Why They're Nonsensical:
This song lyric almost always used to confuse me when I was younger. Is he saying that the grass is greener on the other side or is he just speaking metaphorically?

"The Riddle"
The Nonsensical Lyrics:
Near a tree by a river
there's a hole in the ground,
Where an old man of Aran
goes around and around
And his mind is a beacon
in the veil of the night
For a strange kind of fashion
there's a wrong and a right
Why They're Nonsensical:
Nik Kershaw has been asked many times about the meaning behind these. Many have suspected drug influences, or possibly some old folk tales. The truth is far simpler. Nik had hurriedly written the music and melody for this track, and jotted down some lyrics for a guide vocal to be used in initial recordings - the idea being that the 'real' lyrics would be written as recording of the album progressed, and recorded later. After many attempts to find something that fitted, the 'real' lyrics never appeared, so the track remained with the guide vocal.
