Story about this misheard lyric by: Miss R Bicker I sang it this way for about 2 years. I always wondered what the heck a bolt-on spirit was. I thought it was some bizarre phrase from the 80's that I had totally missed. It sounded like gibberish to me. Then I found out the real lyrics, and it made so much more sense. Boy did I feel pretty stupid!!! |

there's a hole in the ground, Where an old man of Aran goes around and around And his mind is a beacon in the veil of the night For a strange kind of fashion there's a wrong and a right Why They're Nonsensical: Nik Kershaw has been asked many times about the meaning behind these. Many have suspected drug influences, or possibly some old folk tales. The truth is far simpler. Nik had hurriedly written the music and melody for this track, and jotted down some lyrics for a guide vocal to be used in initial recordings - the idea being that the 'real' lyrics would be written as recording of the album progressed, and recorded later. After many attempts to find something that fitted, the 'real' lyrics never appeared, so the track remained with the guide vocal.
