The Lyrics

Ah, the wonderful eighties. When I was a teen, Nik Kershaw (who later gained more fame as composer and lyric) had his fifteen time units of fame with "The Riddle" - it was one of the first songs I ever learnt to play with guitar. So here is my tribute to Nik, I love you still.
I got four strong strings
neck made of maple wood
I make moods jolly good
and cry
for joys and sorrows too
I go where soul of music lie
and reach the sky

Near the bridge and the fingerboard
there're holes on the top
where sound pin connects the bott-
om on what is up
And the bow makes the friction wobble
strings to make sound
and the sound waves inside the box
go around and around
and they'll ever, ever please your mind

I got song to play
notes and the tablature
I have fingers nimble, sure
I get to play instrument
oh so difficult but light
so let's play music that's true

It has neck so thin
scroll top and purfling 'round
Upper and the lower bout
It takes so long to learn to play
stupid and the fools may sway -
wise men play!

Near the bridge and the fingerboard
there're holes on the top
where sound pin connects the bott-
om on what is up
And the bow makes the friction wobble
strings to make sound
and the sound waves inside the box
go around and around
and they'll ever, ever please your mind

(violin solo)

I got bass my own
so let's do a country tune
of the sunny afternoon
the violin sings, bass does heartbeat
thanks to the calling of the wind
so let us sing -

Near the bridge and the fingerboard
there're holes on the top
where sound pin connects the bott-
om on what is up
And the bow makes the friction wobble
strings to make sound
and the sound waves inside the box
go around and around
and they'll ever, ever please your mind

Near the bridge and the fingerboard
there're holes on the top
where sound pin connects the bott-
om on what is up
And the bow makes the friction wobble
strings to make sound
and the sound waves inside the box
go around and around
and they'll ever, ever please your mind
