Blinded by the light
revved up like a deuce another runner in the night
Yes, the first lines are the main lines and yes they are repetitive. But this is the actual correct lyrics that then (back in 1976) lead singer, Chris Thompson sang in this remake of The Boss' tune (Springsteen actually wrote them and sang them on his 'Greetings From Asbury Park' lp as, 'Blinded by the light, cut like a deuce, another runner in the night' {that could be considered repetitive as well}. I do believe, if I count correctly Thompson sings these main lines, 14 times! And yes, that could be very repetitive, but otherwise I like this version of the tune. I think part of the problem for many is the confusion they have of hearing revved as 'wrapped' and deuce as a femine hygenie product, and I know others have said this to me, and I agree it does sound that way -- but I don't know if many know the actual lyrics which might make why they are sung this way make more sense. The next three lyrics of the tune are the first to third verse, that doesn't quite make this song totally repetitive. But these lyrics were sung by Thompson but with backing vocals by then drummer, Chris Slade. Chris Slade though repeats these lines near the end of the song, with a little extra added, while Thompson sings the main lyrics. I think part of the problem for many is that they don't know what is being sung. These lyrics are what was printed on the original liner notes for the albums. And perhaps, also it's difficult to determine what was meant by these lyrics. And yes, there is a lot of different meanings floating around. But one would have to Bruce what the song was orginally about (most likely it's about his early attempts at making huge record deals, and achieving musical stardom -- which would make a lot of sense). Of course Mann could have misinterpreted them even more.
