Wadsworth Mansion | Sweet Mary | Sweet Mary sent a letter to me | - Candy Welty
The Waitresses | Square Pegs | Square pegs, square pegs, square pegs, square pegs, Always never quite right. | 1982's "Square Pegs" was recorded before the 1982 - 83 season minor hit CBS TV-show, by the New Wave group The Waitresses. But of course would be forever known as the "Theme From Square Pegs" after being adopted (or at least part of it, as the later song "I'll Be There For You" by The Rembrandts would be for NBC's "Friends") as the opening theme for the TV show about the awkward teenage years (the TV Show had moderate success, but CBS cancelled it after one season not having faith in it's ability to have staying power -- probably a move that CBS regrets to this day since "Square Pegs" introduced the world to a future powerhouse actress named, Sarah Jessica Parker -- yes, that Sarah Jessica Parker later known for "Sex And The City" was on "Square Pegs" as a dorky and nerdy teenaged girl). - Peter
The Waitresses | I Know What Boys Like | I know what boys like I know what guys want... | "I Know What Boys Like" was a minor (#62 on the charts) hit for the group known as The Waitresses from the summer of 1982. The Waitresses were a new wave/pop group formed in 1978 in Akron, Ohio and achieved moderate success after moving to New York City in the early 1980's. The Waitresses were led by Chris Butler and the original lineup (and the one heard on their most successful songs) included Patty Donahue, Dan Klayman, Mars Williams, Tracy Warmworth and Billy Ficca. "I Know What Boys Like" casts lead singer Patty Donahue in the role of a tease with the boys. Patty Donahue who also was known as Patty Darling was born Patricia J. Donahue on March 29, 1956. Unfortunately for many fans of The Waitresses and Patty Donahue, she would die of lung cancer on December 9, 1996 at the age of 40 years. - Peter
Walter Brennan | Old Rivers | How old was I when I first seen old Rivers? I can't remember when he wasn't around. | - Candy Welty
Walter Harris | What A Piece Of Work Is Man | What a piece of work is man. | "What A Piece Of Work Is Man" is yet another song from the musical, "Hair". It is a chorus piece, but in the original 1968 - 1972 Broadway production, actor/singer, Walter Harris sings the first lines. It is a reference to William Shakespeare's "What A Piece of Work Is Man" and probably is the most cynical song (almost as though the writers, Galt McDermot, Gerome Ragni and James Rado were predicting what would happen around the "Woodstock" generation for the next 38 years or so) from "Hair". - Peter
Walter Matthau | It Takes A Woman | It takes a woman all powdered and pink To joyously clean out the drain in the sink | With decidely tongue-in-cheek dated lyrics, even for 1964 and 1969, "It Takes A Woman" is a sexist man's favorite lyrics. "It Takes A Woman" was from Jerry Herman's musical, "Hello, Dolly!" In the 1964 Broadway production, Horace Vandergelder who sang this song very early on in the show was played by David Burns. Walter Matthau did the more memorable turn in the 1969 motion picture of "Hello, Dolly!" - Peter

War | The Cisco Kid | The Cisco kid was a friend of mine. | The opening line is repeated once more. The seven member group War was from southern California and formed in 1969. War was an r&b crossover sensation when they combined elements of rock, funk, Latin music, R & B and reggae. They originally back Eric Burdon (the former lead singer of the Animals) and in 1971 went on their own having two huge lp hits with "The War Is A Ghetto" and "All Day Music". "The Cisco Kid" was a top five hit from the lp, "All Day Music". - Peter
