Led Zeppelin's, "Black Dog"
The Nonsensical Lyrics:
I don't know but I been told
A big legged woman ain't got no soul.
A big legged woman ain't got no soul.
Why They're Nonsensical:
That just sounds silly. How can the size of a woman's legs tell if she has a soul or not? If I were Robert Plant, I'd get a second opinion.

Led Zeppelin's, "Dancing Days"
The Nonsensical Lyrics:
I told your mamma I'd get you home,
but I didn't tell her I had no car
I saw a lion he was standing alone
with a tadpole in a jar
but I didn't tell her I had no car
I saw a lion he was standing alone
with a tadpole in a jar
Why They're Nonsensical:
The rest of the song is equally nonsensical, as well.

Led Zeppelin's, "Stairway To Heaven"
The Nonsensical Lyrics:
If there's a bustle in your hedgerow,
don't be alarmed now
It's just a spring-clean for the May Queen
don't be alarmed now
It's just a spring-clean for the May Queen
Why They're Nonsensical:
These are all derived from Celtic mythology. Jimmy Page is very big into that sort of thing and used it in the band's music a lot.

Led Zeppelin's, "Stairway To Heaven"
The Nonsensical Lyrics:
Our shadows taller than our souls
Why They're Nonsensical:
How tall is a shadow (think off the ground, not length)? Not damn very. So if your shadow is taller than your soul, your soul is pretty damn thin, weak, and useless. that's what it means.

Led Zeppelin's, "Stairway to Heaven"
The Nonsensical Lyrics:
And as we wind on down the road,
Our shadows taller than our souls
Our shadows taller than our souls
Why They're Nonsensical:
Ok, does he mean that as we age, we tend to view our life and accomplishments in an exaggerated or embellished way? Whatever it means, somehow deep lyrics like that don't seem right in the 'intense' part of this song...maybe if that line was towards the beginning it would have fit in that 'poetic' part.

Why They're Nonsensical:
Robert Plant sounds so intense when he sings this. he must think it means something.

Why They're Nonsensical:
I don't think I even have a hedgerow. If I did, and if I found a bustle in it, I still think I'd be more puzzled than alarmed.
