Mask mandates and business shutdowns were ordered by state governors or city officials. Trump was against them. Pay for police officers is not a responsibility of the President. The President calls for schools to reopen. He does not have the authority to open them. That is the responsibility of state or local boards of education. It's called federalism/checks and balances. That's the way it is supposed to be. We don't want one man to be in charge of everything. Check out the history of 1913, the year everything started to go to hell. Not taught in schools anymore. That was one of my reasons for voting for Trump in 2016: the media and the congress would not let him get away with anything too destructive. Hillary would have had carte blanche to do anything she wanted. Biden will for a few weeks until Pelosi invokes the 25th Amendment and installs Kamala Harris as unrestrained dictatress. On a local note, Kansas City, Missouri has just hired a guy from New Jersey to be City Manager.

That's Qanon level insanity, Patrick. Although I don't know you on a personal level, whether Trump wins or loses, I truly am heartbroken for you and others who have come to this.
As originally written, and until 1913, State legislatures elected the Senate. There was no income tax. Congress had the authority to regulate the dollar. All this was taken away by the Progressive movement. Some say the amendment guaranteeing the vote to women was a step backwards as well. I haven't gone for that yet. The President may advocate for reopening schools or higher pay for police. But that is simply exercising his 1st Amendment rights. It is not his job or authority. Will continue later.
Can anyone tell me what Biden would have done differently about the virus? Fauci opposed masks at first, in part because there were not enough to go around, and they would have gone the way of toilet paper and hand sanitizer. Capitalism quickly filled the gap. Excluding visitors from China and Europe would have been effective, if done sooner, but that would be "xenophobic". Americans don't like being told what to do. There will be resistance. The rules were a mish-mash of stupidity and contradictions. Happens whenever government gets involved in anything. The rulers in Russia, North Korea, China, Iran, Saudi Arabia are not nice guys. They are always on the lookout for weaknesses they can exploit. They have no concept of what most Americans would call "morality". While Trump was negotiating with Kim Jung Un, a petulant child with the capability of throwing a nuclear temper tantrum, Trump's legislature was trying to remove him from office simply because they don't like his style. How does one make deals and enforce threats under those circumstances? As long as we have paper ballots and some form of voter identification, no foreign power can "hack" our elections. Planting fake news on Facebook only affirms what the viewer already believes. I don't think it changes anybody's mind. Trump should have worked more closely with Putin, a nominal Christian, to deal with the threat of Islamist terror. There is no reason we should be at war with Russia, or China. Trump showed great restraint in avoiding a war with Iran. Some of the more capitalist Arab states are negotiating trade deals with Israel. That is a very good thing. I remember 1968. That was the year when it became unsafe to walk where I once could walk. Electoral politics on TV became violent. Today the news showed stores in Kansas City covering their windows in anticipation of riots over the election results. Something is deeply wrong, and it goes beyond Trump's mouth, Biden's brain, or even abortion and AR-15's. There is nothing the political system can do about it. Unfortunately they will feel compelled to do something. It's going to be an interesting couple of weeks.
