The Lyrics

In the early 1960s, Roger Corman made several films very loosely based on Poe tales. Karl Malden starred in the 1954 rendition of Poe's "Murders in the Rue Morgue," "Phantom of the Rue Morgue."
There's slashin', an' gashin', and' shankin', and stickin'.
Cops stuck, but Dupin dons his intuition.
This shrewd dude beat all,
Solvin' crime; his fame here still galls.

Rue Morgue: there's dead folks slain here,
Then they're lying in repose.
Like Corman, flick with Malden,
I've maimed the tale that's E. Poe's.

There are lots of folks slain here;
Rue's gaining ignoble fame.
If you get down to Rue Morgue.
You might rue the day you came.

Then one foggy slit-miss eve,
Phantom came to slay.
Rue Morgue became such a fright,
No one would go out at night.

But, came detective Dupin.
Flics* flummoxed, but solved it, he.
Rue Morgue folks that were slain here
Were done in my a monkey.

Rue Morgue/rue the day was a couplet that slayed me. Great syllable matching, as usual JB. 555
