Original Song Title:

"If You're Happy And You Know It"

Original Performer:

Traditional

Parody Song Title:

"If Your PC Is So Scrappy"

Parody Written by:

Jason

The Lyrics

If your PC is so scrappy add some RAM
If the Pc is so sluggy 'cos of spam
If your PC is so sloppy and to really make it snappy
Then your PC will require some extra RAM!

If the hard-drive is all clogged up with your files
If your drive is so damn-full-up in big piles
Then you need to buy a new drive that can handle your big archive
So the extra space will go on for some miles!

If your monitor is giving you eye-strain
If the screen-burn is making you go insane
So get a cool new flat-screen which will make your friends go envy
So the images will look good for your brain!

If the C.P.U. is a crap Celeron
Then you need to get a faster Pentium
If the processor is that slow and you really want some speedo
Then you need to buy a super Athlon!

Some really lose rhyming cost you a point on pacing, but good job here, Jason.

Thanks Jack. What do you mean by the pacing? I must admit i can't see anything wrong here.

(How quaint, the 3 letter code for this comment is TRY!)
Red Ant - September 04, 2007 - Report this comment
Yeah, technically the pacing is okay, so a better vote would have been 554. The rhymes of the original are triples (know it/show it/know it) - here you've missed the third rhyme in each verse.
Jason - September 04, 2007 - Report this comment
Thanks for that. At least its something else I have learnt, since ive never heard of triplet rhyming schemes before.

I have a real crappy pc so I like this one. 5's
Rotahn - September 05, 2007 - Report this comment
Like the parody. I can relate to it very well. 555.
Phil Alexander - September 05, 2007 - Report this comment
Started well, but the last couple of verses felt a bit strained, and missed the main rhyme of the OS (it's not just the "Clap your hands" bit that really needs a rhyme, it's the "know it/show it" bits within the line, too). I know that does make this one quite a tricky song to parody well, but IMO it's worth the extra effort.
Kristof Robertson - September 05, 2007 - Report this comment
I kind of agree with Phil and Jack, Jase...the extra rhyme would have made this parody tighter...but I enjoyed it, so heres 555 for you
stuart mcarthur - September 05, 2007 - Report this comment
wise advice here Jason - I stumbled on "envy" - was that the word you meant? - but otherwise a good job - 555
Agrimorfee - September 05, 2007 - Report this comment
454 from me. IMHO, pacing was off in the last 2 lines. People don't "go envy"...they do "go wacky" or "go kooky", for example. :)

Thanks to all of you for your feedback!

Red Ant: Once again, thanks for your advice on something I never knew before
Lionel Mertens: Long time no hear! Thanks!
Rotahn: Thank you!
Phil Alexander: Thank you. You sort-of reiterated what Red Ant said, but thanks for your comment.
Kristof Robertson: Thank You! Its great receiving high marks and thanks for your wise words!
Stuart mcarthur: Envy was meant as in jealous. Thank you for your 5s!
Agrimorfee: Thank you for your words of wisdom!

I've read better by you, but this wasn't bad.

SOTM - My first really long parody was to this tune, took some time to write too because of the rhyming issues, you'll find it titled "flip the bird" on my author page if you're interested.

Good

(SOTM) - Need to work on your metaphors a tad. I'm not sure hard drive space can "go on for some miles"

(SOTM) Needed a bit of polishing here and there, but otherwise that was pretty good!

(SOTM) nice segue into a commercial for Athlon here, Jason - and re your answer to my previous comment, I realise "go envy" was meaning jealous, but the fact that it didn't scan or rhyme or make grammatical sense made me curious if it was an error or not - no problem with it though - "artistic licence" covers its back
Below Average Dave (badave.com) - October 31, 2007 - Report this comment
(SOTM) You are getting better Jason, but as Stu pointed out "go envy" kinda threw it off a little. It's cool to see you keep growing. The other thing I want to point out is that the OS you targeted may be a just a bit too easy to parody for serious SOTM consideration, though it's fine for the everyday parody post.

SOTM- Very short and sweet and very timely for me. I just added another gig of RAM to my computer last week, and wow, what a difference. And I agree that Celerons really suck. Good job, Jason.
