Song Parodies -> Onward, Michael Schiavo
| Original Song Title: | "Onward, Christian Soldiers" |
| Original Performer: | Traditional |
| Parody Song Title: | "Onward, Michael Schiavo" |
| Parody Written by: | Barry J. Mitchel |
Terry Schiavo was on life support over a decade after a suspicious fall at home. A million-dollar settlement for her therapy was withheld by her husband, who finally got a court to let her die in 2005. I wrote this during that time when Congress debated euthanasia and the U.S. Supreme Court was asked to rule on the case. I end with advice to file a will and medical proxy (Terry had neither). For original words, visit http://www.cyberhymnal.org/htm/o/n/onwardcs.htm or http://www.hymnsite.com/lyrics/umh575.sht or any pre-PC hymnal.
Onward, Michael Schiavo, cursing vows he swore,
Double-crossing, seizes funds meant to restore.
This disloyal b**t**d deals his wife a blow;
Claims in courtroom battle, "She said 'Let me go'."
[Refrain (first two lines, different melody)]
Like a mighty army, judges give him nod;
Men in black robes, treading on our Founders' God.
Congress is divided, votes at hours wee,
In vain hope Fed doctrine will bring clarity.
[Refrain]
Terri soon may perish, vital signs now wane,
But unanswered questions constant will remain.
Did she tell her husband to end her travail?
Did he keep groom's promise, or were his vows stale?
[Refrain]
Onward, then, free people, hoping for life long;
Cast in stone your choices, while you are yet strong.
You won't need 'His Honor' to decide a thing;
This through all life stages, peace of mind will bring.
[Refrain]
