THE BLOOD

Standing, though I'm not very steady,
In this field where I'm ready
For whatever comes.
Frightened, thinking what might be,
As I didn't join up for this,
It's all unsightly.

Who decided we should be here?
Facing danger, with the end so near.
Facing all those tanks and guns
It makes you want to turn and run away.

I ask myself why,
Am I going to die?
Is this my goodbye?
I don't like this at all.

Shaking here in all this mud,
I just hate the sight of blood,
