The Lyrics

Once again, I have to stress: NOT based on a true story.
Today was gonna be the day
I was gonna ask Joanna out
So hot, I nearly plum forgot
What I was asking her about
I tried my best but what a body
Nearly made me drop my d12 die

Oh sweet, she's walkin' up to me
Now's my chance to ask her to the prom
Perhaps she wants to sign my cast
Simmons flushed my glasses down the bog
What a mistake to wear a T-shirt
That said 'Han shot first'
I've got to try

To ask her out before I begin sweating
And now my hands are shaking something crazy
There are many things that I
Could try to say to her
But it's far too late

She laughs at me
I try to ask her, but she shoves me
Well, that is all
A nerd's mating call

Baby, I seem a bit nerdy
But I am the hottest catch, for you
Say what? You think I'm talking rot
And I'll die lonely? Might be true
But I believe I'll find somebody
Who will love me for the nerd I am

A girl who'll watch my 80's shows beside me
Who'll, with an MP Megatron*, surprise me
And other things that you might
Not think matter so much
But they do to me

Because, baby
The only things I like are nerdy
Hey, where's she gone?
Was I rambling on?

Oh yeah, baby
My nerdiness sometimes astounds me
One day it shall
Get me a nice gal

Sometime, baby
A nerdy girl will come and save me
From a life that's really boring
Except for the odd bullies' beating
*A Transformer figure which is pretty much banned in Australia for being a replica (if oversized) of a Walther P38 pistol. Which is a bit annoying.

Nice read there Conq. I didn't know that Megs was banned in Australia, though I guess it makes sense. I don't know how that toy would fly in today's American market. Maybe that's why they turned him into some sort of tank or plane. Then again, I always thought the name "Walther P38" sounded too much like the "Illudium Pu-36 Explosive Space Modulator". ...and who says the above song is not based on a true story. Just not YOUR true story. Uh...nevermind. :-)

Man.... High School was tough wasn't it. Not only can you not hook up with the hot Joanna babe, BUT Simmons goes and flushes your glasses down the toliet, and don't worry it gets easier in college... Well.... Not really in your late 20's? Probably not... Errrr... Go try out for Football.

(Ages) 'Han shot first' hahaha *snort* hahaha. I knew you must be an Aussie as soon as I saw the line 'flushed my glasses down the bog'. :D

Ages--I considered doing this OS, as I've always loved it, but I'm glad I didn't...this was fun. And for the record, I love a good nerd. ; )

(Ages) Impressive syllable matching and all-too-familiar concept. Oh, and Joanna called. She wants her date back.

(Ages)I wish the rhyme scheme had been consistent with a little less geek-speak, but this is one of the more heartfelt Nerd parodies I've read/heard.

(ages) it reads well. although i am not familiar with some of the refferences.

(Ages) Sweet touching stuff. As a nerdy girl myself, I can relate. I thought I felt a couple of rhythmic glitches, but I'll give you the benefit of the doubt. 5-5-5.

(Ages): "So hot, I nearly plum forgot What I was asking her about" caught me surprise and had me laughing out loud at work myself. Funny song, I really liked it!

Great use of original here, COP. Rhyme scheme was a bit off in some areas, but I really connect with your message, and I think many of your lines worked better the way written, rather than trying for a forced complete rhyme. I'm not sure if that makes sense, but the 'beside me/surprised me' couplet was great.

(Ages) This song has a tricky rhyme scheme that is different in the choruses and verses, and sometimes within the same line it changes, and it got you a bit. I love TOS and the idea, and think you did a good job as a whole. Great job pacing TCOP.

(ABC05N)

Glad you explained what an "MP Megatron" is because I had not clue 1 - Also not at all familiar with the ref to "d12 die" - I did some web searching but I got conflicting returns on exactly what it is and I could not tell from what I found on how it applied to your parody. I gave it my best shot but a lot of it got by me. It seemed writing about a nervous nerd to me was more clever writing than funny. Still not too bad.

(ABC) Not bad; cute stuff. Actually, I may have given you a 5-4-5 this time, though I saw I gave you a 5-5-5 before. Just shows how subjective and arbitrary this judging stuff can be. No new score: my old 5-5-5 stands.

Guy, a d12 is a 12-sided die, used for games like Dungeons and Dragons. A complete set is d4, d6 (standard die), d8, d12, d12 and d20... not that I'm looking at one right now. =)

This was good, conq. I got some chuckles out of it, including the line Jeff mentioned. The rhyming could have been a bit better, but overall well done.

(ABC) I like it better now than i did the first time...but i don't know how (as Liam sang ;))

Oh man Cong, I hate being the person who sings songs sometimes, because it can really tear down a good idea. The lines were funny, but I caught so many missed rhymes here, that I couldn't help but notice. You got a tough one in the first stanza, but you had several afterwards where I think the unusual rhyme scheme tripped you up. This song was one of my favorites back when it came out, and I love that you took it on...but like Jack said, the rhyming could have been better. . .and I hate to say this, but I have too,a lot better, I know if you were to sing this you'd see it, if not contact me, and I'll help you out. It's always best to try to follow your song to the original afterwards, not just for pacing, but for rhyming.. .I think you would have caught these.
