The Lyrics

I was intent on doing a song on the Shawshank Redemption, regardless of the difficulty of finding an appropriate song. I think I found the right song, and hopefully I did justice to the movie. It is sung in the perspective of Andy Dufresne, the main character who was unfairly imprisoned for 30 years of his life.
Remember when we were in love?
Thirty years have passed since then,
I've been stuck in Shawshank jail,
Luckily, I've found some friends.
Happily ever after failed,
When the jury said I shot my wife,
They said I canned her lover too,
Put me in prison for life.

Oh, I'll do my time without complaint,
Helpin' out the warden,
Proud to be Andy Dufresne,
Innocent in Shawshank,
Goin' to the library with Brooks,
Carvin stone into chess piece rooks,
Used to do taxes and insurance, but...
This is the end
This is the end
Of my innocence.

Oh, I'd been there for 20 years,
When Tommy came in '58,
Tattooed arms and slicked back hair,
Told me about his ex-roommate.
Seems that he knew Elmo Blatch,
The man who shot my cheatin' girl,
I finally had my living proof,
But he was shot down in a whirl.

Oh, gettin posters from 'ol Red,
I placed them on my wall,
I dig at night, I dig for life,
While the guards take naps below,
Goin to the library with Brooks,
Carvin stone into chess piece rooks,
Used to do taxes and insurance,
But this is the end
This is the end
Of my innocence.

I waited for the storm that night,
Escaped through yards and yards of muck,
I hurried up, got out of town,
But don't tell me I relied on luck.
Blackmailed Shawshank, fooled everyone,
The warden's gun went to his head,
Mexico was the next stop,
Now it's just me and Red...
Oh, goin' to the library with Brooks,
Carvin stone into chess piece rooks,
Used to do taxes and insurance,
It was the end,
It was the end,
Of my innocence.

I was impressed at your ability to take the movie and translate into this song, which is really hard to parody. Very good work!

I thought Mike wrote a wonderful parody! Shawshank Redemption is one of my favorite movies. Not only was he able to keep up with the pace of the song. He chronologically wrote the verses in a clear and concise manner. Magnifico!!

Do you hear what I hear? One of the kids recently molested by Jacko the Wacko was Kira Henley!

Just noticed this one. I like the movie, the song, and your parody. That must have been a challenge to do. And for those of you who haven't seen the movie, you might not know that "Dufresne" is pronounced "Du-frane."

Nice combination of the two originals. Not exactly funny, but of course humor wasn't the intent. Well thought out.

Good song. Excellent movie. Not as funny as some of the others, but well written

Excellent to see another non-humorous parody on here, those are a rare find. I know the song but I've never seen the movie so I don't know the story, but I think the song was crafted nicely. 2 5's
