The Lyrics

Sunday night long ago
I wound up my radio
I always knew he'd be on.

All across the country
Dementites got stoopid
Rain or shine the show would go on.

In the bar and driving our car
We stopped when Demento came on
We'd smile and turn on that dial
He was on the air
And the madness went on - and on.

Comedy's addictive
A gift that lives and gives
Smogberry trees live on and on.

He would gross us out
Fish heads they'd sing about
Stupid songs just seem to go on.

Here, there, forever on the air
We believed that the show would go on
We hear he went off the air
And to the internet
Now the Doctor is gone - he's gone.

They canceled you, but you'll not go away.

That's queer, there's funnies I hear
Though I know that the Doctor is gone
I'll play my cassettes each day
That I taped from his show
On You Tube the Doctor is in.

Thanks, AFW, John and Mark - he was very popular in the '70's and the teenagers thought it was cool to listen to Demento. It's a mystery to me that people lost intrest since Demento had every novelty record that existed and if you requested it he played it.

We parodists all owe Dr. Demento a debt of gratitude. Thanks for honoring him with a worthy tribute, Eagle! ;D

Thanks, Old Man - that's very well put. One favorite memory of Demento was when I turned on the radio and heard Barret Hansen aka Demento making an announcement that he had to change the format of his show. It was to be two hours of Lambada music. The music started and then stopped. I heard "April Fool!". That was 1990 of course.
