The Lyrics

This is a nice song about a dance hall girl like Sweet Charity...ow, I got something in my eye...
On the pole again
Need to work so it's on the pole again
The life I live is making music with my men
So on a date I go on the pole again
Play the role again
Tellin' guys that they are all a "ten"
Seein' dudes that I don't want to see again
But it's my job so it's on the pole again

On the pole again
When those guys are tipsy
They go up the highway
Tell them they're my friends
Insisting that the girls
Be acting real gay
But it's our pay

So on the pole again
Need to work so it's on the pole again
The life I live is making music with my men
So on a date I go on the pole again

(Stripper music solo)

On the pole again
It's an old profession
We're out on the highway
Gotta meet those ends
Insisting that us girls
Are going their way
Up the stairway

Play the role again
Tellin' guys that they are all a "ten"
Seein' dudes that I don't want to see again
But it's my job so it's on the pole again

It does seem to have a dual polarity. Well done, Rick.

Hmm. You seem to speak from personal experience of such things, eh Rick? 555
Rick D - January 19, 2004 - Report this comment
Actually, Laurence, I am. But not in the way this song describes.

Good work, Rick. Is a weird techno version of the song playing the whole time, or just for the solo?
Phil Alexander - January 19, 2004 - Report this comment
OK, Rick - NOW you've got me interested: in what way, precisely?
Adagio - January 19, 2004 - Report this comment
Good job...doubles and all.

Okay Phil. Don't tell anyone, this is just between you and me, but at my job I often climb up them thar telephone poles. So when I'm up there admiring the view, I sing the title. I just twisted it around to describe someone else's job.

Double entendre supreme. 5's
Spaff.com - January 19, 2004 - Report this comment
I think it's in poor taste to refer to John Paul II as The Pole.
Claude Prez - January 19, 2004 - Report this comment
I was gonna ask if "Aranoff" was a Polish name but Spaff's comment is way better.
Mari D - January 19, 2004 - Report this comment
"Aranoff" is rushin'. "Duncan" is Scottish. I am neither. As to my relationship with poles, I don't know John Paul II.

Rick D - I took a Poll of all my various personalities and had a cacophonous caucus of the voices in my head and we compromised in the scoring and came up with all "Fives" here. Some of the voices wanted to put you in the "Pole" position in the upcoming Popedential campaign. But they were shouted down. Mari D - I believe John Paul II is the Pope that precedes Pope George-Ringo I. You know on the old "Credibility Gap" radio program (Harry Shearer, Michael McKean, David L. Lander) they ended an election day skit by saying. "It's Election Day so we hope to see you at the Polls. If you don't know any Poles, well, try hanging around with some Germans.
