Parody Song Title:

"Don't Know The Original"

Parody Written by:

The Lyrics

This is about a fictitious person who likes parodies yet doesn't know many original songs. If you DKTOS here, you can of course say so, I won't razz you for it. Well, maybe a little bit. ;-)
[intro]

You've never owned a radio

And never watched a video
(no no)
This situation's marginal

It's rather far from optimal

Haven't heard of The Doors
Or The Who or The Cure?
It's surprising for sure
'cause they're far from obscure
Well no one can know them all
But don't just write you:

Don't know the original

Don't know the original

Your knowledge is so minimal
(huh!)
It's bordering on criminal
(oh woah)
Not even a traditional?

You need a rock remedial!

Never heard "Yesterday"
Or the classics and greats?
Well I'm shocked and amazed
Do you live in a cave?
Well no one can know them all
But don't just write you:

Don't know the original

Don't know the original

Don't know the original?
(Blows our mind - there's no tellin' how your youth was spent!)
Don't know the original?
(LimeWire time! - or some other place: download!)

It's unavoidable - we cannot know them all
But those five letters* make an author's skin just crawl
When reading parodies it helps to know the song
Still not understood I see so you just write down

Don't know the original
(Blows our mind - there's no tellin' how your youth was spent!)
Don't know the original
(LimeWire time! - or some other place: download! now go!)

[solo]

Don't know the Major General?

You really are a mineral!
(ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh!)
I know it's unintentional
(huh)
Perhaps you're dumb-dimensional!
(yeah yeah)

Don't know any by Queen
Nor The Beatles nor Cream
(But) you've got ev'ry CD
Made by Avril Lavigne!
Well new Pop 40 sucks to me - but I won't write I

Don't know the original
(Blows our mind - there's no tellin' how your youth was spent!)
Don't know the original
(LimeWire time! - or some other place: download!)
Don't know the original
(Blows our mind - there's no tellin' how your youth was spent!)
Don't know the original
(LimeWire time! - or some other place: download!)

Learn some new originals!

DKTOS!

Sorry, had to write that to kill off the obvious joke and get it out of the way, I actually do remember TOS well enough to NOT go after it, and I know I can trust you on the pacing (had there been any obvious adlibs with it you would have told us in the intro, right?) so I’ll give it 555. Nice touch sticking it to Avril’s fans on the flyby BTW. :-)

Clever titling and theme...

Well done.

IT's simply irresistable for me to give you a 555!(Sorry if that sounded corny)

Great job, Jack. Somewhere, I have an MP3 of a band I was in doing this OS (with me screaming the lead vocal) about 15 years ago. I'll have to post it somewhere. I think you'd find it amusing.

Rule #1: Always know the OS before you parody it. Great spoof, and well put!

Whew! From home page, thought this might have been aimed at... Anyway, Fives, although, of course, D....

I guess this makes you an Original Gangsta, Ant! LUV the title. Come to think of it, somebody (probably not me) will soon want to post "Sinning In Original."

the "Avril Lavigne" was a real punch line, Red - made me LOL - great idea and execution - again - 555

Brilliant work, Mr. Ant. DKTOS: The story of my life. Oh, and MasonR: duh.

Thanks Peter & Alvin & AFW & Royce & Joel & Rick C & MasonR & Pat & TT & Michael & Stu & bobpie & Larry & Cat.

Peter: Though I don't always point out ad-libs there were none taken here.

Rick C: I would love to hear that recording sometime.

MasonR: Don't like rules really, but yeah, that rule is a good one.

Michael: There are still a ton of OSs I do not know, but since last year this time I've probably expanded my music knowledge 3 fold, added a decade or to the range of music I like and learned to appreciate more types of music, including your favorite song to parody.

Cat: When I get a great mind I'll answer your somewhat rhetorical question. ;-)

Stu: Oddly enough this parody almost wound up in the waste can until the "Avril" verse came to me.

Found it late, but it was worth the wait, RA. I am glad you commented on the Avril line, cos that's the one that I thought brought it together well :)

555, one song(which I mentioned in a comment on Cat's parody of the similiar theme) I don't honestly know is the Major General(except a play on it, but never heard the original)... Fortunately for me, I can just use youtube nowadays if I don't know. : )
