The cover story of the Feb. 1989 issue of the late, great “Spy” magazine was entitled “Mr. Stupid Goes to Washington—American ten dopiest lawmakers.” Cover image was VP Dan Quayle, sitting Abe’s lap in the Lincoln Memorial and wearing a dunce cap. Among the ten cited by “Spy” were Edward Markey (D-MA), who’s still around, and “Virginia’s Senate delegation, past, present, and future.” Topping any such list today would have to be Louis Gohmert, from Texas’s 1st Congressional district—a Gohmert pile.
