The Lyrics

Scathe's contest got my juices flowing, which is good since I was in a bit of a mental drought this week. Although, strangely enough, I picked this song since it's the most parodiable (if that's even a word) of all the songs I hate...most of them have lyrics that are SO bad that you just can't spoof 'em!
Dumb, dumb, dumb, for list'ners it's no fun
Dumb, dumb, dumb, yeah this song's overdone
Dumb, dumb, dumb, torture's only begun
Dumb, dumb, dumb, overdone, overdone

This song's overdone
This song's overdone
Tyler's vox don't stun
Out of control it spun

How was it played so much?
Were DJs out of touch?
This stupid song became overplayed
And somehow it hit #4
And now classic rock rad-yo
Plays it all the timeā€“no fun!
Sends me screaming, running for the door

This song's overdone
This song's overdone
Torture's just begun
I would rather rot in the sun

Either a drone or scream
This song's like a bad dream
Should've retired after "Dream On"
Or made more songs like "Walk This Way"
Then we would not be left with this crap
Whose badness charts off the map
And hear its echoes up to this day

Shun the song, shun this song to this day
Shun the song, shun this song to this day
Shun the song, shun the song
Shun, shun the song

Yes, it's "bout child abuse
But that sure ain't no excuse
To justify this tra-ves-ty
Pat Benatar was first, and best!
Steve, you should hear "Hell Is For Children"
A good song, unlike this!
Which currently is sticking in my brain...

Really, really, it's a problem
This song's just not good
If it goes any longer, there'll be a
Crater where I stood
For the record: #4=the Billboard chart position it hit in early 1990

have to agree with the sentiment...this might be screwed up to say but i liked aerosmith a lot better when they were ripped out of their minds
Dee Range - April 14, 2006 - Report this comment
Excellent put down of a way-overplayed song. My sentiments exactly. 555

555. I'm an Aerosmith fan, but I can see how this song would get annoying after being play to the nth degree. There are too many other bands with certain songs that get too much exposure as well.

Any hit can be overdone, and most are lol... DKTOS, but Fives for the sentiment well said.
PMS - April 14, 2006 - Report this comment
Reading this song was fun, twas a parody well done, it merits fives not ones...
Larry Hensley - April 17, 2006 - Report this comment
This wasn't overdone, excellent parody. This song's also been overparodied lately, with all the Cheney parodies to this one. Oh well, 555's
S.T.G. - April 20, 2006 - Report this comment
Oh I see how it is. Someone bashes an aerosmith song and they get praised. I rip on Vanessa Carlton and I get a can of (figuatively speaking) whoopie on me. Great parody though.
Max Power - May 02, 2006 - Report this comment
DKTOS-Looks good though.

(Bad Song Contest) Let me guess - you made this from a lyrics sheet alone. Heh heh. There's a bit more to the song than what you have listed, including two more "Janie's got a gun.." 'verses' and another 'run away, run away from the pain', and more to the outro. 454. Still, good satire of an extremely overplayed song.

(Bad Songs) Good call, Cat. I like Aerosmith but, you can only take so much. 555
Cat - May 13, 2006 - Report this comment
Well yeah Red Ant, what do you expect? If I had actually listened to the OS while writing this, my head would explode, thereby rendering me inable to write any more parodies!
Scathe - May 13, 2006 - Report this comment
(Bad Songs) Heh heh. Nice work here.
Agrimorfee - March 16, 2007 - Report this comment
(ABC3) Yeah, like Red Ant said above, you missed quite a bit there. An early Cat parody when she weren't naught but a kitten in the Amiright world.
Wolverine - March 16, 2007 - Report this comment
(ABC3-T) I guess I never heard the OS "too much", though the parody does remind me of that awful Achy Breaky Heart crap.
Michael McVey - March 16, 2007 - Report this comment
I don't listen to Aerosmith, but I like the theme. Some songs are played wayyyyy too much, just like some commercials!---MM
Johnny D - March 20, 2007 - Report this comment
(ABC) You tell 'em, Cat! Parodies like this that directly satirize the OS and its artist are in a class by themselves!
Max Power - March 22, 2007 - Report this comment
ABC - Good
Matthias - March 24, 2007 - Report this comment
Usually love Aerosmith, but on this one I can't agree with you more
bobpiecheese - March 24, 2007 - Report this comment
(ABC3-T) Song parodies satirizing songs, particularly the song being parodied, are always special. I haven't much of the OS, but I've seen a bit of the video, and HOLY CRAP HE'S GOT A BIG MOUTH!
Jason - March 24, 2007 - Report this comment
(ABC3T) I liked the theme to this as well. 555
Stuart McArthur - March 25, 2007 - Report this comment
(ABC3T) great idea to use the song against itself Cat - although I like others of yours better - 555
Rick C - March 26, 2007 - Report this comment
(ABC3T) Still a good idea.
kristof Robertson - March 27, 2007 - Report this comment
(ABC3T) This isn't bad, young Cat...but a million miles away from the stuff you write now. 455
Red Ant - March 28, 2007 - Report this comment
(ABC3-T) See above, and ditto Alvin's comment. I DO sympathise with the "head exploding listening to lousy songs" sentiment, too.
Arwen - March 28, 2007 - Report this comment
ABC...while I don't share you sentiments about this particular OS...I know the feeling you're describing all too well. Nice work!
Jeff Reuben - March 28, 2007 - Report this comment
Well done, although I have to admit that I like the song. I guess it's been long enough that they don't play it too much anymore. I do like how you made the song self-depricating.
Jack Wilson - March 28, 2007 - Report this comment
Love the os, and the parody 555
Agrimorfee - December 10, 2007 - Report this comment
(Artistry) Cat's playing for points here, not necessarily podium, methinks. See my sentiments above.
Matthias - December 10, 2007 - Report this comment
Errr... Not the best Cat work I've ever read. Although the song is about child abuse, I like it.... Is that wrong?
bobpiecheese - December 14, 2007 - Report this comment
(Artistry) Still love the concept, still lovin' the parody.
Rex - December 16, 2007 - Report this comment
(Artistry) A good snapshot of the developing parodist. If we ever discover a crater where Cat once stood, we'll know what happened.
Below Average Dave (badave.com) - December 19, 2007 - Report this comment
(Artistry) I think that it was alright, I must admit I didn't really get into it though. . .I kinda like the original, but agree it did get overplayed (and kinda still gets over-represented considering the caliber of some of Aerosmith's other songs) Not bad Cat, you've grown a lot though and are still growing.
Mikey Squirrel - December 21, 2007 - Report this comment
Artistry- Wow, you really don't like this song, do you? Loved the ending, with the crater where you stood. Great job, Cat!
