The only way to accomplish the goal of disarming the American public is to send equally psychopathic, brainwashed young men with heavy armament into peoples homes and shoot them if they move. Every law, and every tax is backed by men with guns, and when you advocate for a law, you are advocating for violence, because that is ultimately the means of its enforcement. I must admit I wonder how this thing with the gun laws is going to play out in the US; here in the UK we've had tight gun restriction laws ever since the Hungerford massacre, but even our laws aren't watertight - as the Raoul Moat incident proved.

Both sides have valid complaints but this is a ntion with a history of guns and no way any true American is gonna give them up to allow criminals to possess them and threaten their lives be in in their homes or out at a theater, mall, restaurant, etc... The Left has a point about the types of weapons beign purchased b/c they are NOT part of the US gun history but are German war amrms since the late 1900s (auto-pistol, double-action auto pistol, true SMG,a nd true assault rifle... one could even could Anti-Material weapons in .50 cal as the Germans had those as ATWs). US gun history is Civil War and Colt western revolvers, lever-action carbines, the US M1911A-1, the Thompson, The Garand and M-1 carbines, Remington and Mossberg shotguns. All the types that mass-murder are of German origin from Second and Third Reichs. OTOH, Americans have a fundamental right to bear arms and as tech has changed along with threats those German types are needed to fend off attackers. Finally, these massacres all share something in common- mental illness and THAT is what needs to be examined. Existing guns laws only need to be enforced properly, but even the US Govt. has f*cked up will illegal guns sales many times over. A complicated issue, no REP is gonna support any gun restriction or banning laws. We have millions of guns but only periodic massacres by individuals that had no criminal history and were mentally ill- so restricting types of assault weapons which technicallya re just sporting arms in semi-auto doesn't make much sense. Fully-automatic firearms are already illegal... so WTF???

Courageous stuff, JB! Regardless of one's point of view on gun control, you went there knowing there are many AIR regulars who would vehemently disagree with your message here. I admire people who express unpopular but sincere opinions in the face of formidable opposition. As for my own stance, I have strong views but I'm just not taking the bait, unless direct provocation forces me to that. It's probably not hard to work out which side of the fence I'm on.

I'd rather have fun making light, entertaining parodies than using them as a platform for polarizing political issues. In fact, I've held back on blasphemous themes, because they seem to piss people off. Still, it's all valid dialogue and this is one of the few sites where a tolerant, informed debate can take place. I have no objection to it, but count me out.

Newtown was a tragedy but did any LAW stopo the shooter? I no longer belong to the NRA but Amendment 1 & 2 are the backbone of the U.S. Constitution and if either of them are damaged, the rest of the Constitution becomes meaningless. Don't count on the police to protect your life because laws have NO effect on the lawless and making more stupid laws will only hurt the (majority) of firearms owners who abide by the law. Firearms registration should be made illegal until the criminals register theirs and this should include automatic weapons. Criminals don't fear the police; they fear armed citizens with CCWs.
