"Retriever's Gun-Shy"

Parody Written by:

The Lyrics

This old hunter's retriever's gun-shy

Starin' at me terrified

When shot flies

She was just a yellow lab

Watchin' as in streams I'd cast a fly

Our days go by

Ev'ry time when the gun-shots sound

Up's an' runs on home, flees noise, that hound

Then she comes runnin' 'round

She wasn't just another canine

And I couldn't leave her in the pound

They'd put her down

Oh, and I'd feel sorrow grievin'

If a vet brought about the end

Of my best friend

( --- instrumental --- )

They give dogs a shot of courage

Hold 'em while their life-time's ebbing comes

Pooches get numb

This old hunter's retriever's gun-shy

That old girl still looks afraid

But she's okay

I loved the title-line, esp when you sing it to the OS - and the parody matches the mood of the OS too - excellent - 555

Awww... my old friend of my tender youth, my parents' black lab Toby, changed his address to Rainbow Bridge not too long ago. He died on his way to vet - he was 15. It has been sooooo silent at my parents' home. He sure wasn't gun-shy, but my dad likes fishing more.

Well done, Johnny! 555 Do you sing? If so, do you want to record one of your parodies to post on the site? I live in Woburn.

I great example of how parodies do not need to be LOL funny to be great parodies. Very touching. 555

Rick Cormier - oops, sorry, I spaced-out when I posted my thank-you late last night, Rick. Yes, I do sing ... and it is very kind of you to offer to make a recording. I'll give it some thought. I already have 1 recording on the site ... I posted a link to a recording of my parody "Rocket Spam".
