Song Parodies -> "Salutary Man"

Original Song Title:

"Solitary Man"

 (MP3)
Original Performer:

Neil Diamond

Parody Song Title:

"Salutary Man"

Parody Written by:

The Comedian

The Lyrics

Wood-working was fine
'til the time
That You called me

Preach Thy word's
What I heard

Your truth came along
Love is strong
That's what I taught

Me and You
Had work to do

Broke yoke of eyes ill
By Thy will
Eyes once blind see

To you I pray
For Your great grace reminds me

I've become Thy man

Thy salutary man ... salutary man

I trembled in fear
Seein' where
You would lead me

To chaos
And a cross

In Gethsemane
I prayed "Why,
Father, must I ---

--- die," I cried,
"Crucified?"

Spoke knowin' Thy will
Though I'm killed
Life will find me

On the third day
With all grave-claims behind me

Thy will's done --- I am

Thy salutary man ... salutary man

( --- instrumental --- )

Stone's rollin' --- Thy will
Now instills
Life inside Me

The world is saved
And knows prayed faith will find Me

I forever am

The Salutary Man

Salutary Man ... Salutary Man ... Salutary Man

Now that I looked up 'Salutory' I do believe this is the perfect OS song to use. And how appropriate a day to post it. 5's

Perfect pacing, as always, though I got a bit surprised that it wasn't about what I expected it to be, which was health food or something like that. Anyway, 555 carrots or Hail Marys (take your pick) for your sound SOTM craftsmanship.

[SOTM] Brilliant, loved it 555

Great job of working with short lines and communicating a timely and timeless message.
Stuart McArthur - December 09, 2005 - Report this comment
(SOTM) classic JD - syllable-perfect, and you can actually hear it in place of the OS - 555

(ABC05) Your reputation for tawdry tunes supersedes the sincerity of this parody. Nice job.

(SOTM) DKTOS song soz

(SOTM) I gave TOS a listen on one of the vinyls I have of Neil Diamond. About the parody, I was also expecting something different from the title. Better than the original and what John J said.

SOTM: Religiously Funny

Johnny D's two favorite subjects: Semen & Redeemin'. Good job.

(SOTM) I don't get it, but the pacing is brilliant.
Adam Eccleshall - December 24, 2005 - Report this comment
(SOTM) I'll trust others on the pacing, but unfortunately religious songs aren't really my cup of tea, and I couldn't figure out what to substitute for "how funny", so 534 from me :-/
Phil Alexander - December 27, 2005 - Report this comment
Not entirely sure what to say about this one... tongue is definitely not far enough in cheek for my taste ;-)
Ethan Mawyer - December 28, 2005 - Report this comment
(ABC) Tongue appears to be neither in cheek nor sticking all the way out. Which i suppose is for the best as that would offend it's intended audience (i think) and the intended audience is certainly not the DR. Demento audience. While this is well-written and potentially very useful, it isn't funny and i've never felt right fully substituting how profound for how funny. 1 done, 20 to go
Tim Mayfield - December 28, 2005 - Report this comment
SOTM - Well thought out and executed.
Kristof Robertson - December 29, 2005 - Report this comment
(SOTM) I enjoyed this, JD...and I WILL substitute profound for funny in this case. 555
wannabemustangjockey - December 29, 2005 - Report this comment
(SOTM) Better late than never; I like this but damned if I can remember the pacing of the OS... I'm familiar with it but I just can't remember. I will have to look this one up again.

Very well written JD. And subbing 'profound' for 'funny' makes more sense with works like this, as others have noted.
Claude Prez - December 31, 2005 - Report this comment
You know I prefer your funny ones but this is well-written as always.
