Song Parodies -> "Imagine"

Original Song Title:

"Imagine"

 (MP3)
Original Performer:

John Lennon

Parody Song Title:

"Imagine"

Parody Written by:

Red Ant

The Lyrics

Don't get me wrong; I don't have a problem with the lyrics in "Imagine", though IMHO the tune could have been better.
[intro]

Imagine this.. song jammin'
Not boring and so dry
John did.. not notice?
I have to wonder why
Imagine that the organ.. [alt:keyboard]
Wasn't in this song.. (ah ha..!)

Imagine that the drummer
Had somethin' he could do
Maybe a fill or bar chord
(No guitarist too?!)
Imagine this piano
Had more than 12 keys..! (woo hoo...)

You might say... I'm an a**hole
But I'm only pokin' fun
At Lennon's great.. Imagine
And this spoof.. is almost done

Imagine some inflection
I wonder if you can
Maybe this would sound better
(With) An orchestrated band
Imagine these 3 minutes
Could be.. rock and roll.. (I do...)

Some might say.. I'm an a**hole
But I'm only pokin' fun
At a song none... too joyous
Now, then or.. in '81*

[outro]

*Actually, December 8th, 1980 is more accurate. RIP John.

Imagine this tune done by the Beatles. Enjoyed this!
MasonR - March 13, 2006 - Report this comment
There have been too many Imagine parodies that put John Lennon down or piss off his fans. This, however, was appropriately respectful...and funny! 555
Tommy Turtle - March 13, 2006 - Report this comment
Agree completely.... 5s... but aren't you worried that Lennon's fans would accuse you of being anal and posting spam??
Now, how about writing one on G. Harrison and "My Sweet Lord", for which he was found to have plagiarized the melody of "He's So Fine", a 60s trivial romance rock by the Chiffons???
Rick C - March 13, 2006 - Report this comment
Nicely done, Jack. The melody wasn't great, the instrumentation wasn't great but, the message is timeless. 555

Imagine I'm givin' you real fives

Parody's fun, 555 Though doesn't the beat from this song peculiarly trace a similarity with "Look what you've done" from "Jet"?(Dunno, just thought it might've )

very funny, 5's all the way

I actually like the tune, but don't like the lyrics, so between us we hate it completely, Red - Stu (which is the "art"less version of "Stuart" - chuckle)

seriously, you make some interesting points here, Red - 555
Paul Robinson - March 13, 2006 - Report this comment
WOW...Red - I did what you said...I imagined the organ was taken out...the drummer was more active...thru in a lead guitar riff....put some more keys on the piano(I tried to get Tori Amos to sit in but she told me to get lost)...put some inflection into the lead vocal...next thing I know I'm listening to the Rolling Stones do "Satisfaction"...(I can't remember if there is a piano part in that...probably not...I coulda said "You Can't Always Get What You Want", but I DO think there is an organ in that...lol). Not sure about a couple of those things, but I'm sure this is a "5-5-5" parody ~ ~ ~

Red Ant you're an a**hole, but you have a great imagination!!! 5-5-5!!!

Thanks Rex, MasonR, TT, AFW, Joel, RickMeister, Alvin, Stu, Paul, Pat and Matthias.

TT: To answer your first question: no. As for "My Sweet Lord", I haven't heard TOS in ages but IIRC most of the lyrics are "My Sweet Lord (Hallelujah)"; how about this: "Stolen Chord (Plagiarism)". I guess I just wrote about half the parody right there, maybe I'll finish it one day.

Joel: No idea on that one.

Stu: Well, I don't hate it, it just needs some 'spice'. "Imagine no possessions" did raise a flag with me on two levels but since I didn't know John's intent with that line I gave him/this song a BBotD (Big Benefit of the Doubt).

Paul: Vivid imagination there (lol on the Tori Amos line) and a completely different outcome than came to my mind; I was thinking more like Axl Rose on piano and the late Layne Staley from Alice in Chains (who did an awesome cover of Lennon's "I Don't Want To Be A Soldier) doing this song. But yes, "Satisfaction" would work too.

Matthias: Yes I am, and thanks; at least I'm not anal.

Much better than the original! If only the original had been as you described. 555

Good one 5's .....and while its a good OS if I go to yet ANOTHER wedding or funeral where they play this song I'll be jumping in after the coffin (not following the bride)! ;)

Thanks Larry and LeeBee.

I was reminded of an opposite type of joke I've heard, Something like this: Q: What would Harrison Ford be without his acting ability, seasoned looks, experience, wealth and general public appeal? A: Pauly Shore!

I thought it was a cool parody, and you poked fun at John, but in a nice way. Love your subs for the choruses. 555.
Timmy1000 - June 14, 2009 - Report this comment
A simple OS and a good job of kind of poking fun at it. Sometimes the simple songs have the best messages. Your "imaginings" were really on point for the OS
Abbott Skelding - June 15, 2009 - Report this comment
ABC: While I do love the original song, I do agree that the music could have been a little more upbeat. Nice Job!!
Agrimorfee - June 15, 2009 - Report this comment
(ABC) Lennon is still a sacred cow, but you roasted him gently over your low heat with hickory chips for smoke flavor. Don't see how this could be less than 555.

Jack, If this don't "Beat All". Fine flavorful roast because it was cooked up to "well done" in very good taste. Excellent!

Not all around funny but still a good gentle prodding to John Lennon with his boring "Imagine" song.
Stuart McArthur - June 24, 2009 - Report this comment
(ABC) nice job of turning the song back on itself Jack - see above - we both have history with this song!
blackjack21 - June 24, 2009 - Report this comment
Looks like you irked a couple of Lennon fans. I thought it was good, and fun, unlike the OS.
bobpiecheese - June 25, 2009 - Report this comment
(ABC5I) Not that familiar with the OS (outsid e of a mashup that uses the 'da-de-da-dum' bit), but I'm presuming that the pacing was great. Nice ribbing of the OS without being too nasty. 555
Leo Keough - June 25, 2009 - Report this comment
(ABC) The parody struck me as being a summation of the comments Lennon would receive if he posted the OS on Amiright!...Great job!!!...555!!!
Below Average Dave - June 25, 2009 - Report this comment
It was funny--the OS is a bit boring, so I can certainly see your point of view. . .a little tame by your standards to be honest (You totally rip on some songs)
Invisible Boy - June 25, 2009 - Report this comment
A short but effective bash. Whether or not this song deserved it doesn't matter...everything is fair game.

Your comment "Actually, December 8th, 1980 is more accurate. RIP John" did make me think...

June 25th, 2009 RIP Michael...
