Original Performer:

Parody Song Title:

"Imagine He Lived"

Parody Written by:

Michael Pacholek

The Lyrics

In commemoration of the 65th anniversary of his birth, October 9, 1940... and the 25th anniversary of his death, December 8, 1980. If there's a heaven, I imagine he's in it. By now, he should no longer be surprised.
Imagine there's no bullets.
It's easy if you try.
No hell from that gun.
He didn't kill that guy.
Imagine all the people
never heard his name.
Ah...

Imagine a reunion.
It isn't hard to do.
For "Do They Know It's Christmas?"
And played at Live Aid, too.
Imagine all the Beatles
together again.
You...

You may say that it's pointless
to dream of what never was.
But I still do, and say, "Why not?"
And a better world 'twould be for us.

Imagine old John Lennon.
I wonder if you can.
Telling us how Bush hurts
the brotherhood of man.
Imagine John, he sings at
Kerry's Inaugural.
You...

You may say that it's pointless
to dream of what never was.
But I still do, and say, "Why not?"
And a better world 'twould be for us.

Your parody was going along just great until you just HAD to mention BUSH. I'm no Bush fan but I really think that part in your song totally fricked it up. I can't imagine JL singing something like that about Bush or any other politician. Thank God he never wrote like you.

I imagined quite a different fate for Lennon...

You get good marks despite the political reference for thinking how things would be different and good pacing. If Lennon were alive today then he could maybe explain (satisfactorily) this:

Hey Michael, good "serious" parody that's generated some strange and unfortunate reactions. I'll bet most of the people posting negatively here were not old enough to remember what it was like before Dec. 8, 1980. I've often wondered how different the world would be if John Lennon hadn't been murdered, and I've come to the conclusion that it would've been a better place.

Ugh, old-guy reunions... Try imagining that one of these days we'll retire and get off the frickin' stage already.

To Ant, Mason and Alvin, thank you. To the others, rather than go into a diatribe about your assessments, I think I'll let John Lennon's words from the film "A Hard Day's Night" speak for me... YER A SWINE!

But he doesn't. Live up to the ideals of this "better world" you speak of, and you'll honour Lennon and others who've fallen. But who the heck am I talking to, you probably already do.

I think the consistency with the pacing of the original could be a little better, but I love this. And it's now been thirty years. Imagine if they had been different.
