The Lyrics

Not everybody, or even most, sound like this, thank goodness. I've just run into a few screechy singers. It makes me appreciate the others more.
Haven lair and cozy quips
Stand by, chum, we've our friendship
"Echoed voices in the night."
We've a stressless spirit in an endless night.

Woo hoo witty women
We can harmonize
Woo hoo witty women
We got the croon in our cries.

We jelled, we voiced sound, what a sight,
Glancing at notes, choir site.
Lazy, was she, was the other "whom",
And she drove ourself to madness with her shiver croon.

Woo hoo screechy woman,
Key so high we cry.
Woo hoo screechy woman,
We got the tune, she just tries.

(musical interlude)

Ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah.
Ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah.

Although you want to stuff her
Mouth full of some pizza,
she's been keepin' kin the rebel's wed.
And there's some tenors showin' frowns, someone's still around.
She can block your ears up tight until they all have bled.

Woo hoo screechy woman
Key so high we cry.
Woo hoo screechy woman,
We got the tune, she just tries.

This is very much like my parody "Screechy Woman" about Hillary Clinton, also a parody of Witchy Woman-------a little too close I'd say.

Royce, this parody is about sopranos in a choir...not the same subject at all.

I know yours is about a different topic--my point still stands.

I think it was different enough to be different. I've had my ideas redone by someone else. And I've stepped on others unintentionally by either forgetting to look first or just missing the song. I think if it is an out and out plagiarism then it should be addressed. This doesn't look like plagiarism.

Pretty good Pat; esp. the pacing. I think Royce has a point; you probably wouldn't have done this song with this title if you'd searched it first and seen hers (which is really good, by the way) Anyway, good job.

I liked it, why did you change your name?
Adagio - August 26, 2003 - Report this comment
There was another just plain Pat on the board, who got his/her song on my little list. Chucky took that song off my list, and changed my name (I'm Adagio on the messageboards). He just made an executive decision on the name thing, which made sense.

Maybe what the site needs is a search and report routine that is executed when a writer makes a submission that alerts the writer that the name of his song has already been used and provide a way to review that parody and then let the submitter either proceed with the submission or back out of it. After all, there are well over 10,000 entries on this site and some songs are done to death. I have looked for previous versions of a song and actually missed an original because the list was too long or the author mis-spelled part of the identification. This doesn't appear to be the case here but people make mistakes and we should give them the benefit of the doubt when this occurs.

I'm not sure how the songs are QCed by GC or whoever when they are edited before posting but some cursory check could be instituted in this process that would alert admin posters that a copy cat entry has been submitted giving them the opportunity to reject it at this time.

Just some thoughts on the matter. I really hate to see these things happen to writers out here. Bottom line is that we need to give the 'offender' the benifit of the doubt that they did not intentionally copy someone elses art.
Adagio - August 26, 2003 - Report this comment
In this case the only thing that could say to be 'copied' is Screech Woman out of Screechy Screechy and using the same song...\o/
Guy DiRito - August 26, 2003 - Report this comment
I am totally sure there was no intentional plaigerism here. It is just unfortunate when these things happen and they lead to heartburn. I think both songs were extremely weel done and they both enhance the site. We all need to be forgiving when another writer moves too close. Writers who have been on the site a long time should know better than newer writers about this sort of thing and newer writers should be afforded the opportunity to live and learn as some of the more established writers have. We just need to afford others the same break we would want if we were in this situation.
