The Lyrics

Friends, Amirighters, countrymen, lend me... YOUR ears! The apartment building from Friends is at 90 Grove Street, corner of Bedford, in Manhattan's Greenwich Village, but there's actually a French restaurant on the ground floor, not a coffeehouse -- which would please Monica, but not the rest of them.
In the day, we sweat it out ON the streets
of a runaway American dream.
At night we head OUT to get coffee
made FROM espresso machines.
Sprung from cages on Bedford Street
strung-out, fuel-injected
and whining, 'cause Monica's neat.

Whoa, Rachel, this town rips the bones FROM your back.
It's a deathtrap, it's a suicide rap.
We gotta GET out while we're young.
'Cause Friends LIKE us,
baby, we were born... TO run!

Phoebe, play guitar, but you won't go far.
And Joey, you'll be an actor.
But hitting THE wrong syllable
like me, you might sound like Shatner!
Together, here ON Thursday night
we'll laugh 'TIL we drop
and then maybe go and get tight.
Whoa, will you hear all my jokes FOR a while?
'Cause, baby, I'm JUST a scared and lonely rider
but I gotta know how IT feels.
I wanna know if there's a chance with Monica
and know if they are real?

Mon, can you show me?

(saxophone break)

Beyond the village, Costanza's LeBaron
screams down the boulevard.
I got pulled over BY Sipowicz
and he interrogated me hard.
I'm a sitcom guy, and it gets ME high.
But I wonder what kinda stuff I missed.
I got a bit part on "The West Wing" Wednesday night
saw who the Vice President kissed!
Whoa!

(guitar break)

One, TWO! Three, four!
The pilot left me talking 'bout this
dream about crazy phone.
Well, I know I shouldn't talk ABOUT such stuff.
Ross and Joey, would YOU leave me alone?
Together, Monica's and my madness
will bring OUR viewers gladness and some laughs.

Whoa, someday, Friends, I don't KNOW when
we're gonna be cited IN a TV Guide poll
and maybe even BE rated at 1!
But 'til then
Friends like us?
Baby, we were born to run!
Whoa, honey
Friends like us?
Baby, we were born to run!
More coffee, Gunther!
Friends like us?
Baby, we were born... TO run!

(instrumental fadeout)
That "Shatner" line was a shout-out to Chris Bodily, whose "William Shatner Sings..." series is a significant influence on the "Matthew Perry Sings..." parodies, which are now, themselves, a series.

Nice tribute to Chenandler Muriel Bong. I particularly like the invasion by characters from other NYC shows. Oh, and by the way, they're real...and they're spectacular.
