The Lyrics

IF

If a time could ever come to pass
To live my life again,
I swear to you today, I'd change in every way.
If the chance should ever come for me
To show I could do good,
I'd be a different man
And prove to you I can.
For though the past has seen me doing wrong,
I'll make amends, you wait and see.

If a man like me who's spent a life of crime
Can make the change,
Then who are you to say, I should be locked away?
If the world would only let me show
That I could do much more,
I'd find myself a wife,
And live a godly life.
But since there's not a hope in living hell,
I'll just accept that I will fade away.

Kick Out the Jams 4 Your Bread! - February 24, 2022 - Report this comment
I remember as a little kid seeing on TV an ice skater in a Snoopy body outfit strumming an acoustic guitar to the original song. Childhood memories like that can give you a real good vibe, even IF it's just fleeting. Your parody is very good. It's a terrific rewrite. It isn't humorous, maybe that's why so many viewers panned it. There's nothing remotely funny in your parody but that doesn't spoil it one bit. Cheer up and look at it like this, this IS a great rueful insight of regret and IF nothing else, it's the best promotion yet of the Eastern religious idea of samsara (cycle of births and deaths until you 'get it right' and reach nirvana, which is eternal life - not the famous band). ; )

It's not many viewers who panned it; just the one idiot who gives me 13 ratings for every song following one of my efforts that panned Trump!

As someone who has had a history of alcoholism, I really like this parody. It's more serious than funny. I can attest that people can and do turn their lives around. I haven't had a drink in over 14 years.
