The Lyrics

Belated congrats to Phil Alexander for accepting my challenge and doing Farrago for Fernado.
He painted guns of Francisco
Leveled at the little town of Guernica; they did it in.
Unfair fight waged by Francisco,
But he's still dead, as was pointed out
In that SNL barb.
And now distant are his guns,
As is Pablo, who was an artistic star.

Looking at oeuvre of Picasso. . .
The power of the best of his work
Will last eternally
He was so unfazed, Picasso,
By critics who took him to task
For paining those offset eyes.
Just look at his stuff today:
For some of this paintings patrons
Have paid near peak van Gogh highs.

He wasn't a painter of such light
As "Starry Night," Picasso,
Where the stars shine in a swirling sea,
Nocturnally. . .palette strokes.
In one of his periods, used blues,
Eschewed the reds.
In '04 Blue Period did end,
Rose'd next ascend:
"Pink"-casso.

"Guernica" was gray Picasso,
But before that he was the most famous
Artist in the land.
I think that is what piqued Braque so,
Because Braque was a lesser known member
Of the cubist band.
He was one of several guys
Who fractured planes and faces. . .
Looked steroid-Cezanne'd.

I have heard that later in his life
He'd used no knife, Picasso.
Doodle for a bar owner and he
Would drink for free: pink cassos.

OK! It's "cassis"; it's not light red--
Purple instead.
Picky, so!
Though to France from Franco, España fled,
Was still "usted," Picasso.

Señor Barry, usted has written a very good parody with a lot of somber stuff and a touch of levity, with lines like “steroid-Cezanne'd.” Can you elaborate on the SNL barb for those of us who are unenlightened?

John, SNL did a recurrent bit about Francisco Franco--still dead, shortly after the generalissimo headed for hell.
