The Lyrics

With the move of the Montreal Expos (see "Where Nobody Sees Your Game"), I have now done parodies for 29 of the 30 current Major League Baseball teams. I was waiting until I could get down to Washington, D.C. to see the Nationals play at Robert F. Kennedy Stadium. Last night, I did, and they won, 2-1 over the Oakland Athletics (interleague game). When I saw them play in Montreal last year, blowing a ninth-inning lead and losing to the Houston Astros, there were about 8,000 people on hand. Last night, attendance was 26,879, and it looked like more, and it was loud. Washington hasn't had an MLB team since 1971, a winning record since 1969, a Pennant race sine 1945, a Pennant since 1933 or a World Series win since 1924. Sure, D.C. fans knew this was the year, but could it actually be THE YEAR?
Well, we tried it once and we tried it twice
but Minnesota got our guys.
The next team, they just couldn't please us.
They went to Texas, just to tease us.

Well, this could be the Nats' time.
This could be the Nats' time.
May be the Nats' time.
I don't know.
Oh no?
Oh no?

Well, I'm sorry, N.L. East Division
but you're gonna face a big revision.
Expos played with too much sorrow.
But they'll get you good tomorrow.

Well, this could be the Nats' time.
This could be the Nats' time.
May be the Nats' time.
I don't know.
Oh no?
Oh no?

(guitar break)

Well, this could be the Nats' time.
This could be the Nats' time.
May be the Nats' time.
I don't know.
Oh no?
Oh no?

Well, I told you once and I told you twice
the Mets and Braves will pay the price.
Phillies, Marlins, change your mind
'cause Washington will win this time!

Well, this could be the Nats' time.
This could be the Nats' time.
May be the Nats' time.
Don't you know?
Oh no?
Oh no!

Nats' time, baby!
(This could be the Nats' time.)
Won't lose no mo'!
(This could be the Nats' time.)
Oh whoa whoa whoa!
(This could be the Nats' time.)
Oh whoa whoa whoa!
(This could be the Nats' time.)
Oh whoa whoa whoa!
And here's to you, Mr. Robinson. Nationals manager and Hall of Fame slugger Frank Robinson, that is.

i love baseball and baseball parodies....and this is a fine one, indeed...nicely paced and funny...i'm pulling for nats to finally end the reign of atlanta in the NL east...funny how well a team can play when people actually show up to watch them...5s

Nice job, but a grade-school softball team could beat the As this year.

Don't forget, Dee, the Texas Strangers never made the Playoffs until after their politically-connected owner sold them. It's just as well, since he never amounted to anything we could be proud of. Stuart: While I do FOLLOW the Nats, I don't ROOT FOR them. My blood is still Pinstriped, for the greatest sports franchise in all the world. And if you think that means Manchester United, then you need to rearrange your priorities.
