Original Performer:

Simon and Garfunkel

Parody Song Title:

"Stealing Movies"

Parody Written by:

The Lyrics

Sit down and lose the hat
Don't wanna hear your idle chat, Just
Sneaking in a microphone
Aiming a cam and stealing movies!
La la la la la la... Stealing movies!

Hello doorstop, watch that glowing!
I'm tryin' to tape the movie showing!
Hurry up and find a seat
Doo-doo-doot-doo... Stealing movies!
La la la la la la... Stealing movies!

There's just one scene to go, don't ruin it for me
If you can't hold your soda, don't order a drink
Get your screaming tot out of the seat next to me
Please I beg you. Stealing movies.
La la la la la la... Stealing movies
La la la la la la... Stealing movies.

I think the "la la la's" really made it. Nice job.

Thanks Claude! Glad you enjoyed it! :)

Short and sweet, with a point. Nice job :-)

Good pacing. The parody would have worked better for me if you didn't have to leave the "to" (hear) out of the second line and if "drink" rhymed with "me."

Wow, thanks for the ratings and comments, guys! John -- I agree. I have some deserved lumps to take on the pacing. I had "want to hear" but thought "wanna hear" would pace better -- deleted "to," neglected to edit "want" and didn't spot it in the preview. This is a hard talent pool to jump into -- I thought I was a pretty good parody writer until I found this site and saw just how good "good" can get! Wow!

Kudos for knowing the original wasn't "Feelin' Groovy". Good job, Melhi.

Nice job

Melhi - don't batter yourself on the pacing, man: it's damn near syllable and intonation perfect (and until you pointed it out, I hadn't noticed the missing "to" after "want"... I was singing it anyway)- yes, there is an awful lot of impressive talent at amiright, but with this offering, I'd say you fit in pretty well with the best of us :-)

How'd I miss this? Reminds me of a Seinfeld episode. Which is a good thing.

Back when the original song was written, movies were rarely stolen--that subtracts somethiing for me. Ah, well. Good job anyway! Dan
Melhi - December 16, 2003 - Report this comment
Thanks Dan. Sorry my updating it for this era didn't work for you, though. :)

(ABC's) Another good parody that I don't want to reset the vote count on. (51) Great play on the original.

(ABC) Funny. I probably would have thought it funnier if I knew how the song goes, but it's a very funny idea. Sounds like something my uncle would do. He's still not allowed in that one theater...
