The Lyrics

First, a positive comment about Gwen's CD: It makes a nice coaster. If the pacing is off that's because I couldn't stand to listen to TOS again. I typed it all out just to show how damned repetitive it really is.
Uh oh, song is $hit
All the fans feel like you got gypped?

Many times I have heard of this track
Your C-D sucks feeling like I got jacked
so I want my moneyback Gwen
I want my moneyback Gwen

Many times I have heard of this track
Your C-D sucks feeling like I got jacked
and I want my moneyback Gwen
my was-ted Andrew Jack-son*

Ooooh-ooh, it's a gyp, what a rip
Ooooh-ooh, it's a gyp, what a rip
Ooooh-ooh, it's a gyp, what a rip
Ooooh-ooh, it's a gyp, what a rip

I saw your CD on the shelf,
and I didn't think that I should buy it
People are wasting cash like mad,
bettin' everyone wants re-funds.
So I'm taking it a-back, dammit it's un-wrapped!
Looks like I am stuck now, gonna tell you all-ll
That right, put your cash a-way, warning everybody right now

Many times I have heard of this track
Your C-D sucks feeling like I got jacked
so I want my moneyback Gwen
I want my moneyback Gwen

Many times I have heard of this track
Your C-D sucks feeling like I got jacked
and I want my moneyback Gwen
my was-ted Andrew Jack-son

Ooooh-ooh, it's a gyp, don't buy it
Ooooh-ooh, it's a gyp, don't buy it
Ooooh-ooh, it's a gyp, don't buy it
Ooooh-ooh, it's a gyp, don't buy it

The beat is crude or I should say weaker
Than radio with blown-out speakers
By the way when you pen song lyrics,
Maybe you can make words rhyme!
So you're gonna sing? try changing the chorus
Your song it bores us, it is aural do-do
Last night I rup-tured my eardrums,
'cause Hollaback really sucks

Many times I have heard of this track
Your C-D sucks feeling like I got jacked
so I want my moneyback Gwen
I want my moneyback Gwen

Many times I have heard of this track
Your C-D sucks feeling like I got jacked
and I want my moneyback Gwen
my was-ted Andrew Jack-son

Ooooh-ooh, it's a gyp, don't buy it
Ooooh-ooh, it's a gyp, don't buy it
Ooooh-ooh, it's a gyp, don't buy it
Ooooh-ooh, it's a gyp, don't buy it

Let me hear you sing,
this song's ear-itating
It's-I-R-R-I-tate-ing
This song's ear-itating
It's-I-R-R-I-tate-ing

Hey Gwen,
your song ear-itates us
It-I-R-R-I-tates-us
This song ear-itates us
It-I-R-R-I-tates-us

Many times I have heard of this track
Your C-D sucks feeling like I got jacked
so I want my moneyback Gwen
I want my moneyback Gwen

Many times I have heard of this track
Your C-D sucks feeling like I got jacked
and I want my moneyback Gwen
my was-ted Andrew Jack-son

Ooooh-ooh, just leave it, in plastic
Ooooh-ooh, just leave it, in plastic
Ooooh-ooh, just leave it, in plastic
Ooooh-ooh, just leave it, in plastic**

My sentiments exactly. Gwen Stefani should have stuck with No Doubt, as her solo CD leaves a lot to be desired. The only good thing about her CD is that it provides Amiright readers with the opportunity to turn her sucky songs into great parodies which are much better than her original stuff!

don't know the OS...but it was a fun read...5s

Good protest parody...and I believe you should get your Hollaback dollaback..
Blethar - August 12, 2005 - Report this comment
Then again, it's funny how there's a lot of kids who didn't even know Gwen used to be in a band. The pacing is a bit off, and it's fairly funny, so 4-4-4.
Red Ant - August 12, 2005 - Report this comment
Thanks Sharon, Alvin, AFW, and Blethar.

Tragic Kingdom was my first ever album. Whatever happened to the 'Kingdom' part? Funny work, Red Ant. 445

455, pacing wasn't terrible. I guess sometimes, duty calls and you have to hold your nose and dive straight into a song you hate to fish out a fresh parody!
Scrawny Johnny - August 13, 2005 - Report this comment
Don't know much of the song but I've heard enough to get the jist of the tune. Enjoyable parody, Red, and perhaps the best (if not the only) parody of this song!! Despite her awful solo crap, "Don't Speak" is still a good song....anyways, good parody!
Red Ant - August 13, 2005 - Report this comment
Thanks Luke, YAD (I think I the only OS I hate more than this one is "It's A Small World") and Scrawny Johnny (actually there are about 20 parodies of "Hollaback Girl" and I like "Don't Speak"as well).
Claude Prez - August 13, 2005 - Report this comment
Thankfully, I don't think I've been subjected to this original song, but your title alone made me laugh. Well done, I can tell.
Michael Pacholek - August 14, 2005 - Report this comment
I actually like the OS, though I can see why it would drive some people bananas. I haven't done it yet, but I've got a title if anybody wants to take it: "Quarterback Girl." (Might Mike Armstrong write it, perhaps?) Blethar: That joke goes back to the Seventies: "You mean Paul McCartney was in a band before Wings?"
Tyrell - August 14, 2005 - Report this comment
Oh thank you i am not the only one who thinks Gwen sucks good work 5-5-5
Stephen aka Step-chan - August 16, 2005 - Report this comment
555, although I have(fortunately) only heard a fraction of the original song. She should have stuck with her band(which is better than her solo career).
Dominic L. - August 18, 2005 - Report this comment
Well, pacing is only off on one line, so I didn't mark you down with that. This song is probably the worst song on the album, and it's a pretty funny read! There are about 2 or 3 songs on the album I like because it kind of has the new wave feel to it (I don't know about you, but I like new wave)... but I really miss No Doubt's ska days... those were the times... Their new stuff isn't that bad, but definitely not as good as before... Anyway, this extended comment is at an end.
Dominic L. - August 19, 2005 - Report this comment
I also heard that she is still making albums with No Doubt, and as a solo singer is coming out with another in 2006 (oh no!)
Red Ant - August 19, 2005 - Report this comment
Thanks Claude, Michael ( I thought you didn't like this OS...), Tyrell, Step-chan and Dominic L.

God, if you don't like the song, don't listen to it. If you hear it on the radio, for god's sake, plop in a CD of a band you LIKE. If your CD players broken, well, ever heard of Ipods? 000, only for your poor logic.

THATS WHY YOU LISTEN TO THE CD FIRST LIKE AND ONLINE CD LIKE SMASHITSUSA.COM AND I LISTEN TO HER CD IT SUCK EXSPECT THOSE THREE SONG SHE ALREADY PUT OUT AND I WAS LIKE NOPE AM NOT BUYING THAT CD AM JUST GOINT TO GET THE THREE SONGS I WANTED AND BE ON MY WAY.
Red Ant - August 26, 2005 - Report this comment
Well, this is interesting....

Solid Snake: I'm not God. Where I work I do not have control over the radio and furthermore cannot leave the work area when Hollaback Girl comes on. (I had a short day today and heard it only 3 times in 5 hours). Thus, I don't always have a choice of what I listen to, though your advice of "don't listen to it" is sound. IPods cost money and I can't afford one right now and even if I could I can't use one at work. The reason I bought this CD is because I like No Doubt but "Love Angel Music Baby" is not great. Thanks for the vote.

blue: Seven-sixteenths of an inch is all you have to move your left pinky finger to turn off the Caps Lock key, a handy tip you might think of next time you want to post a comment. My dial-up is flawed and listening to music on-line takes considerable time. Free downloads of MP3s are mostly (or completely, not sure) illegal and I tend to distrust using my credit card over the Internet to pay-per-song. Thank you.

SOTM...you know, I totally dig the whole CD...but this is a great idea, and it's well written...=)
Agrimorfee - September 08, 2005 - Report this comment
(SOTM) Not really as cringe-worthy as "Rich Girl", but annoying just the same. Not your song, of course, Red. 555
Red Ant - September 08, 2005 - Report this comment
Thanks Arwen, though I am surprised the grammar in TOS doesn't bother someone who was an English major in college:

"This my $hit"-incorrect, one must say "this is my $hit". "Ain't no..."- incorrect, double negative. Then she correctly spells bananas. Ironic.

Thanks Agrimorfee, at least "Rich Girl" has a bass note that doesn't make my stereo sound like it is fried, though if I heard it 3 times a day for the last 4 months (like "Hollaback Girl") I'd probably cringe too.

(SOTM) Very funny one. Yeah, that track stinks. Too bad that apparently the rest of the album isn't very good either. I actually saw Gwen in concert with No Doubt 3 years ago, too bad her current stuff stinks.
John Jenkins - September 10, 2005 - Report this comment
Well done, Red Ant. I agree with the theme, but I don't think that Ms. Stefani is the only current artist who is putting out mediocre lyrics. And I particulary liked the jacked/Jack-son verse.
Jake A Ralphing (Luke Brattoni) - September 10, 2005 - Report this comment
(SOTM) I had to suffer through 3 and a half minutes of that MIDI... and I thought the original was bad enough...
Red Ant - September 11, 2005 - Report this comment
Thanks Adagio, EmiLoca, Larry, John and Luke.

John: Agreed. The number of artists in the last 5 years that basically butcher songs is what inspired me to make "2005 (the year the music died)".

Luke: Gives new meaning to the line "the beat is crude....", don't it?

SOTM - I'm beginning to think that you're a masochist, running with all these OS you don't like, even in the SOTM contest. :-)
Good parody, and I loved the "dolla'back" joke here in the comments too.

Even better with the delightful midi you provided; well done.
Phil Alexander - September 24, 2005 - Report this comment
I know exactly the sentiment, even though I don't know exactly the song. And given the ringing endorsement you have so perfectly failed to give the OS, I hope you don't mind if I give it a miss..

(SOTM) "aural" is a cool word to use, and overall, a cool parody.
Red Ant - September 26, 2005 - Report this comment
Thanks Claude, though I take it by "delightful" you really meant "horrible".

Thanks Phil, though I would hope you at least listened to the "delightful" MIDI Claude mentioned.

Thanks Johnny D, "aural" compliments the "ear-itating" line as well.
Spaff.com - September 26, 2005 - Report this comment
Ooh. Ooh. I'm working on a parody of this OS too. I mean, how can you NOT want to parody this one? Nice job, Red. I agree with Johnkins that "Andrew Jackson" is a great sub - but the title is perfection.

(SOTM) Umm, is that rip the same as copying? Funny how words get opposite meanings. Perfectly legal English: 'I was ripped off by the price, so I ripped the CD and gave it to all my friends but then I ripped my jeans, though they didn't give a rip.' 5's
Red Ant - September 27, 2005 - Report this comment
Thanks Spaff, Adam, Rex and Tim.

Spaff: Good luck; you'll need that and patience (and perhaps outpatient therapy) if you want to parody this OS.

Tim: Given the context of the song and my bottom comment I'm pretty sure I meant "rip" in the context of "ripped-off", though "ripping" this OS from another CD would have been more sensible and less expensive....ah, who gives a rip? ;-)

oooo i love seeing parodies to this song since it drives me crazy!! me and my sister had an idea to remake the VIDEO to taht song, we'd be like sitting in front of the toilet going 'thats my $hit' and pointing at the toilet bowl...and then we'd like pretend to pull a banana out and be like oh yeah ' this $hit is bananas' lol....getting mad at gwen stefani and starting a rant is fun!! lol like her new luxurious song... it SUCKS!! and the video! shes just rolling around in candy singing about how great she is...lol i made a parody to that...called the smelly-est

Hey Red Ant, if there's a decent indie record store in your city, you can probably sell any really bad CDs of yours there. Granted, you don't get it all back, but some of them do pay VERY nicely. =)

New comment: if you need to rewrite your song's hook to make it be heard on the radio, you probablly wrote a song that is not THE s***,but just s***.
Max Power - May 11, 2013 - Report this comment
I remember when the song was overplayed. It's pretty catchy but it does get really annoying however. Pretty much what I would describe as a guilty pleasure song.
Blaydeman - May 14, 2013 - Report this comment
(ABC) Personally I think the OS is a lot of fun. Granted, it's not a great song musicality wise. However, your spoof of it was hilarious! A lot of you lines killed me, particularly loved the "ear-itating" pun. Super clever! I would've liked to see a little more variation int he chorus and hook, because it comes up so often in the song that it would've been a great place to add some more comedy, even though this one is pretty much filled to the brim.
bobpiecheese - May 14, 2013 - Report this comment
(ABC) Normally I would be annoyed that you didn't vary the chorus, but a) this was back in 2005, I don't think it was a "thing" yet and b) any excuse to turn the song off faster. Fantastic parody, and while I think there are some Gwen Stefani songs worth listening to (granted, only "Cool" comes to mind), but Hollaback Girl deserves every attack it gets. 555!

Nice use of the song against itself! The spelling out of the word might've been more effective if it were the same number of letters as "bananas" but it's understandable that you wanted to include "ear-itate." Favorite line: "my was-ted Andrew Jack-son"
Abbott Skelding - May 16, 2013 - Report this comment
Oh man, I am really in the minority here. I think the song is pretty darn catchy (along with "Rich Girl")...but this was and awfully good spoof, Love the title switch and there were a lot of good lines in here. Nice job!
