Real Lyrics -> Bad Grammar in Song Lyrics -> Snow Patrol

Song lyrics aren't supposed to be a fountain of perfect english, but on the other hand some are just so atrocious, they need to get called out. We're not looking for sentance fragments or the word ain't since there are too many instances to count.

Snow Patrol's, "Chasing Cars"
The Lyrics:
If I lay here
If I just lay here
Would you lie with me and just forget the world?
Why:
Apparently the songwriter figured out that it should be "lie" not "lay", but he didn't get it until the third line. However, if he's asking her to lie with him while he lays eggs, then I guess it's correct.

The Lyrics:
If I lay here BR If I just lay here BR Would you lie with me and just forget the world? BR
Why:
Some say this is wrong and should be 'If I lie here' however, it's a second (past) conditional sentence, constructed If + past simple..... would + present simple. So it is correct, because LAY is the past simple of 'LIE'

The Lyrics:
If I lay here etc
Why:
I'll correct my own correction - It is a second conditional sentence - which is a present conditional, not 'past' as I said above. The song words are correct - it's a classic 2nd conditional.
