Misheard Song Lyrics -> Stories -> Ugly Kid Joe

Misheard lyrics (also called mondegreens) occur when people misunderstand the lyrics in a song. These are NOT intentional rephrasing of lyrics, which is called parody. For more information about the misheard lyrics available on this site, please read our FAQ.

This page contains a list of the songs that have stories about their misheard lyrics submitted.

Song names are sorted by first letter, excluding A and The. This is sorted by song title only, not by song title and performer. So if two different performers preformed the same song, you'll see misheard lyrics for both on the same page (provided the song title was spelt the same both times, and misheard lyrics have been submitted for both!).

Ugly Kid Joe's, "Cat's In The Cradle"
The Misheard Lyrics:
What I'd really like, dad, is to borrow the car keys.
See you later, cat, Ben, please!
The Real Lyrics:
What I'd really like, dad, is to borrow the car keys.
See you later, can I have them please?
The Story: I'm historically very very bad about discerning lyrics. I'm constantly asking those around me how a particular line goes. I'd never heard the original song, but thought that it was from the 70's or something, and that calling people 'cat' was much like calling somebody 'dude' today. Couple that with the fact that I kept thinking the guy was referring to his son as 'Ben', and well.. there you go. My sister caught this one, and she's never let me live it down. - Submitted by: Matt
