Misheard Song Lyrics -> Stories -> The Righteous Brothers

Misheard lyrics (also called mondegreens) occur when people misunderstand the lyrics in a song. These are NOT intentional rephrasing of lyrics, which is called parody. For more information about the misheard lyrics available on this site, please read our FAQ.

This page contains a list of the songs that have stories about their misheard lyrics submitted.

Song names are sorted by first letter, excluding A and The. This is sorted by song title only, not by song title and performer. So if two different performers preformed the same song, you'll see misheard lyrics for both on the same page (provided the song title was spelt the same both times, and misheard lyrics have been submitted for both!).

Greatest Hits album at Amazon.com
The Righteous Brothers', "(You're My) Soul and Inspiration"
The Misheard Lyrics:
Please, I'm Biggie Smalls, baby
The Real Lyrics:
Please, I'm begging you, baby
The Story: I swear it was a future reference to the Notorious B.I.G. - Submitted by: Cody Finke
The Righteous Brothers', "Unchained Melody"
The Misheard Lyrics:
A long, lonely time
The Real Lyrics:
Alone, lonely time
The Story: Frequently misheard (probably as part of some confirmation bias) as "a long, lonely time", which were likely the original lyrics, but were altered by The Righteous Brothers in their recording "Alone, lonely time", decidedly the evolution, offers new meaning as a more emphatic intro (as in "she is the only one that he's ever hungered for, and yet hungers for") as opposed to a simple description of "a long time". It also initiates an extended metaphor on the agonisingly tepid progress of "lonely time" which mightily culminates in its power ("Time can do so much"). - Submitted by: Daniel Johnson
The Righteous Brothers', "Unchained Melody"
The Misheard Lyrics:
Oh my lord
The Real Lyrics:
Oh my love
The Story: It kind of sounds like "oh my lord" - Submitted by: Cody Finke
