Misheard Song Lyrics -> Stories -> Sergio Mendes w/ Brasil '66

Misheard lyrics (also called mondegreens) occur when people misunderstand the lyrics in a song. These are NOT intentional rephrasing of lyrics, which is called parody. For more information about the misheard lyrics available on this site, please read our FAQ.

This page contains a list of the songs that have stories about their misheard lyrics submitted.

Song names are sorted by first letter, excluding A and The. This is sorted by song title only, not by song title and performer. So if two different performers preformed the same song, you'll see misheard lyrics for both on the same page (provided the song title was spelt the same both times, and misheard lyrics have been submitted for both!).

Sergio Mendes w/ Brasil '66's, "Fool On The Hill"
The Misheard Lyrics:
But nobody ever hears him
Until he p***ed a rake.
The Real Lyrics:
But nobody ever hears him
Or the sound he appears to make.
The Story: Before hearing this version by Sergio Mendes, etc., I was fairly familiar with the Beatles' version, but didn't have all the lyrics memorized by any means. Then I heard this on my car radio and, thought, they sure don't annunciate all the words as clearly as the Beatles did. The second line above sounded PARTICULARLY peculiar the way I heard it. I knew that must not be the real words, but couldn't remember the real words to that line from the Beatles version either. I wracked my brains all the way home trying to figure out what the real lyrics to that line were. But I came up with nothing until I got home and looked up the lyrics online. - Submitted by: Ingrid McCannless
Sergio Mendes w/ Brasil '66's, "Fool On The Hill"
The Misheard Lyrics:
Sees the sun going down and the eyes in his head
See the world spitting rain.
The Real Lyrics:
Sees the sun going down and the eyes in his head
See the world spinning 'round.
The Story: I always thought it was about such a heavy downpour that everybody on the planet had to spit it out. Like it got done raining forty days and forty nights. - Submitted by: Chad
