Misheard lyrics (also called mondegreens) occur when people misunderstand the lyrics in a song. These are NOT intentional rephrasing of lyrics, which is called parody.
For more information about the misheard lyrics available on this site, please read our FAQ.
This page contains a list of the songs that have stories about their misheard lyrics submitted.
Song names are sorted by first letter, excluding A and The. This is sorted by song title only, not
by song title and performer. So if two different performers preformed the same song, you'll see
misheard lyrics for both on the same page (provided the song title was spelt the same both times, and
misheard lyrics have been submitted for both!).

And rape me in the dark.
And save me from the dark.
The Story: I was listening to the song with my little sister. She misheard the lyrics on that line. She is 4 and doesn't know what sex or rape is. I had stopped the car and me boyfriend was getting in. My little sis jumps up and starts singing that line, which she thought was 'and rape me in the dark'. I was so embarassed and no one knew what to say. So I had to explain to her that what she said was wrong and not to say it again. She was so upset. - Submitted by: jade
Bring my brother's gun
Before I come undone.
Bid my blood to run
Before I come undone.
The Story: I thought she was maybe talking about being a vampire or some kind of freaky monster thing, and wanted her brother to kill her before she did anymore harm. - Submitted by: Jessica
Lift my heart to run.
Bid my blood to run.
The Story: Originally I thought it was called 'Wake Me Up Inside' and when I first saw the album, 'Fallen', I wondered why that song wasn't listed on it. Now I know that the song is actually called 'Bring Me To Life'. - Submitted by: David Pratter
How could I burn you forever?
How could I, you were never blind.
How could I have burned paradise?
How could I, you were never mine.
The Story: My friends and I were sitting in my car and this song came on. I knew it somewhat, so I sang along with my friends. But when it came to the part when I sang the misheard lyric, everyone piped up and said, 'You were never blind?!' and started laughing. It was a total red-face moment. - Submitted by: Purple Monster
I snore like thunder.
I'm going under.
The Story: I was singing with my friends and decided to sing solo. So I started to sing 'Going Under' by Evanescence. Instead of singing 'I'm going under', I sang, 'I snore like thunder.' I was so humiliated, but life goes on and I am over it now. But my friends still tease me! - Submitted by: Samantha
In my field of purple flowers
In my field of paper flowers
These words won't seem to heal.
These wounds won't seem to heal.
The Story: When I heard it, I thought maybe she meant that saying that didn't make her feel any better. I guess I thought wrong! - Submitted by: Mr. Sally
I can't mistake the twisted way you f*** me.
I can't escape the twisted way you think of me.
The Story: I suspected all along that these weren't the right lyrics; but had to be sure. Amy Lee doesn't normally sink to the lows of a lot of her contemporaries. Besides, it sounded really out of place for the rest of the song. - Submitted by: BulldozerBegins
And I'm pouring crimson regret and beach mailed.
And I'm pouring crimson regret and betrayal.
The Story: I sang the wrong lyrics in the school talent show. - Submitted by: Miranda
And I'm pouring crimson regret and beached whales.
And I'm pouring crimson regret and betrayal.
The Story: This is my daughter's favorite song and she plays it at least 3 or 4 times a day. It was 2 weeks before I realized what the actual lyrics were - and that was after I looked them up! My daughter thought I was trying to be funny when I sang along to the song. - Submitted by: Misty
My gun, my turnip kid
My God, my tourniquet
The Story: My friend was singing this song, and I said 'Wait, what? Turnip kid?' and she cracked up. Now every time I hear this song and sing along, I sing 'turnip kid'. - Submitted by: turkoizdog
