The "you" in the chorus is kind of muffled. And Michael Hutchence's ascent gives it a "er" or "er" quality. Also, the first lines of the song are "I'm standing here on the ground, The sky above won't fall down" So, "don’t change the earth" just made sense to me and that's how I always heard it.
