Misheard Lyrics Stories:

"Last Kiss"
Misheard Lyrics:
Oh where, oh where can my baby be?
She owns the Statue of Liberty
Original Lyrics:
Oh where, oh where can my baby be?
The Lord took her away from me

Story about this misheard lyric by: oldtimer.

This is not really a misheard lyric. My sister and I were watching one of those oldies record offer commercials on T.V. in the 70's. When they played an excerpt from 'Last Kiss', we only heard the first part of the lyric. Then my sister chimed in with the Statue of Liberty part and insisted those were the correct words. It was a few years later before either one of us heard the whole song.

Inappropriate Song Lyrics:

"Last Kiss"
The Inappropriate Lyrics:
She's gone to heaven, so I got to be good,
so I can see my baby when I leave this world.
Why They're Inappropriate:
You can't be 'good enough' and work your way to heaven. Only your faith in the finished work of Jesus, who took our place on the cross in His substitutionary death, will save you and nothing else.

Upbeat Songs With Depressing Lyrics:

"Last Kiss"
The Lyrics:
Well, where, oh where can my baby be?
The Lord took her away from me.
She's gone to Heaven so I've got to be good
So that I can see my baby when I leave this world.
Why:
This version of this song was a little too upbeat/danceable for its own good. When Pearl Jam re-recorded it, it actually did sound depressing, which it's supposed to be (someone dying before their time isn't something to dance to).
