Peggy Lee's, "My Man"
The Lyrics:
He isn't true,
He beats me, too.
What can I do?
Oh, my man, I love him so.
Why:
I was reminded of this when I read another entry on Amiright - one under "Banned Songs", about a Garth Brooks video being banned for depicting domestic violence, But seems there wasn't a problem with singing about domestic violence when this came out. But back then, refer to a couple in bed, or say "hell" or "damn", and censorship was inevitable. Go figure, Every generation has it things that it strains at, its things it sees other generations as prudish for, and its things that it glosses over as "no big deal".
