Yes', "And You And I"
The Nonsensical Lyrics:
The teacher trained in order to lose his name
The preacher travelled, asking to be shown the same
The preacher travelled, asking to be shown the same
Why They're Nonsensical:
Where did the teacher take this kind of exam?

Yes', "Awaken"
The Nonsensical Lyrics:
Workings of man, crying out from the fires set aflame
By his blindness to see that the warmth of his being
is promised for his seeing, his reaching so clearly
By his blindness to see that the warmth of his being
is promised for his seeing, his reaching so clearly
Why They're Nonsensical:
Just about all of Jon Anderson's lyrics are vague 'feel-good' generalities that lead nowhere. This is simply one example out of a thousand or so more.

Yes', "Close to the Edge"
The Nonsensical Lyrics:
A seasoned witch can call you from the depths of your disgrace
Why They're Nonsensical:
I don't even know where to start with this one. Seasoned with habenero sauce? Seasoned by years of disgrace depth calling? I am a fan of this band and even the song, but geeze!

Yes', "Love Will Find A Way"
The Nonsensical Lyrics:
I eat at Chez Nous.
Why They're Nonsensical:
Jon Anderson must have gotten his inspiration from Chez Nous' garbage dump.

Yes', "Siberian Khatru"
The Nonsensical Lyrics:
Bluetail, tailfly
Luther, in time
Suntower, asking
Luther, in time
Suntower, asking
Why They're Nonsensical:
What Martin Luther is doing here I'll never know. He sure 'arrived in time' in 1517, though.

Yes', "Siberian Khatru"
The Nonsensical Lyrics:
Sing, bird of prey, beauty begins at the foot of youk
Cold stainless nail, torn through the distance of man
As they produce the summit
Cold stainless nail, torn through the distance of man
As they produce the summit
Why They're Nonsensical:
Despite the fact that none of Yes' lyrics make any sense, this must be the worst. How can man have distance? How can you produce a summit- a summit is just, well, there!

Yes', "The Revealing Science Of God"
The Nonsensical Lyrics:
Craving penetrations offer links with the self-instructor's
sharp and tender love, as we took to the air,
a picture of distance
sharp and tender love, as we took to the air,
a picture of distance
Why They're Nonsensical:
This is just a bit of the intro to the 'Tales' album, and has to be a high contender in any battle for 'the most stoned lyrics ever'. A friend of mine mistook the first two words for 'craven penetration' - strange contrast with the words about the love of the yogi (?). I have to add that I love the music on this album.
