Song Parodies -> "Out, Dammed Spot!"

Original Song Title:

"Macbeth, Act V, Scene 1"

Original Performer:

William Shakespeare

Parody Song Title:

"Out, Dammed Spot!"

Parody Written by:

John A. Barry

The Lyrics

Landowner 1: You see, the creek’s not open.

Landowner 2: Yes, it is rendered shut.

L1: What is it they have they done now?
They’ve constructed a dam.

L2: It is an accustomed action with them, to
stream-stop, the washes dammed. I have known them
continue at it for hours, and hours, and hours.

L1: The spot here’s blocked.

L2: Bark they’ve reaped. They have knocked down
Larch, aspen, fir in manner quite intemperate.
It’s wrong, Steve!

L1: Out, out, dammed spot. Out, I say. Clogged slough!
My friend, ’tis time we blew it, hellish
working! Why, oh lord, why’d they make a polder here?
’snot a mere weir. Let’s blow it, this damn dam;
we’ll make it powder-endowed. The lit match is
hot. The blown dam, though, will cause some flood
victims. . . .

L2: T.S. Spark that!!

Whether tis nobler to suffer the trees in meadows of outrageous wood strewn
And to lay down palms against a stream of bubbles,
And by doing so, erode them...
Well done, Sir John. Here are thy 5's.

Yes, Sir, Mr. Barry, I say we blow up Hoover Dam and all the rest, and flood Las Vegas. The place is no good anyway, and people shouldn't go and spend their money there. They should let their money be spent by the professionals in D. C.
