Song Parodies -> "Manila"

Original Song Title:

"Maria"

Parody Song Title:

"Manila"

Parody Written by:

Tommy Turtle

The Lyrics

TT: always pushing the envelope!
Manila...

Only Philippine town I've ever heard
Manila
Manila, Manila, Manila...

All the Chuck Norris flicks: Asian world: shooting site, preferred [1]
Manila
Manila, Manila, Manila....

Manila!
I've folders of folded manila
The documents inside
File cabinet, abide
Neat-ly

Manila!
Best envelopes: made of manila
So strong, the contents bound
They get here safe and sound
To me!

Manila!
Fiber's rope can resist salt water
Present bought: nice, strong bag for your daughter

Manila
Keep using, we oughter': Manila!

The most versatile fiber from Third World [2]
Manila!

[1] "Missing In Action", e. g., and many other movies by Norris and others, supposedly set in Vietnam, used the Philipines due to its similar terrain and low labor costs, not to mention a government and people more sympathetic to showing Norris going up against the Viet Cong and kicking their rices.

[2] (SKIP THIS IF YOU LIKE) Intended something very lightweight (hehe) as a counterpart to the week's "heavy" parodies and research, but can't resist pointing out that "By the 1960s, the (Philippines') economy was regarded as the second largest in Asia, next to Japan. However, the leadership of Ferdinand Marcos would prove disastrous, by transforming the (free) market economy into a centrally-planned economy." With Marcos gone, the country has opened up somewhat to a "mixed economy", but still, "The ... income for 45% of the population of the Philippines is less than US $2.00 a day." Oh, the wonders of a centrally-planned economy! ... How will *you* live on $2.00/day as our Government continues down that path? ... sorry, it was supposed to be a funny song.

TT, you've really gone Show Tune on us this week. Well done. Why do they call those folders manilla folders? I had a friend in the Air Force years ago who stationed in the Phillipines during Marcos era. He said labor was cheap - for instance, you could hire a hitman for $5.

I had to check to find out, but found Manila envelopes contain the hemp or abaca grown in the Philippines, and some envelopes are made from hemp grown in Canada. Here's a bushel of fives for encouraging your critics to educate themselves on matters large and small.

Mark Scotti: Still doesn't compare to the Thrilla from Wasilla, does it? Thanks Mark!

Timmy1000: See metaphorsbwithu, who was ambitious enough to find out for himself lol :) :) thanks Timmy. And I'll keep that in mind if I ever need a hit, Man.

Iamba Larios: (LOL!) Love the comment, love the nick! Thanks for v/c!

metaphorsbwithu: Back atcha for sharing the endless thirst for knowledge -- yeah, did the same research for the song. Now, if you could have a little talk with Timmy1000 ... :) :) :) TT the educator, that's moi! Thanks for v/c!

Foldergirl: I'll file that away for future reference ... and I promise not to spindle or mutilate if you'll just bend and fold ;) :;) :)

My kind of satire, Mr. Turtle! Great use of the subject "Manila!", especially the fact that that was my mom's childhood home. And the fact that Manila envelopes are best to mail mostly business letters and packages! I love those kind of Manila envelopes that have the metal brad (or whatever's under the flap) in the end. One of my duties when I used to temp is to order office supplies, such as 5 packages of Manila folders/envelopes with 50 each package. Anyways, thanks for thinking of my family's country and birthplace! 555's. BTW, I always think of Manila as the Beverly Hills of the Philippines due to the posh malls, restaurants, and a bunch of swanky hot spots there! There they have a food stand consisting of smoothies and fried appetizers.
