The Lyrics

Ocean's 11, Shrek, Grease, Dumb & Dumber... the list of films with crappy, contrived sequels are endless. Well, I say we stop those damn sequels which are made simply to make a quick buck riding on the coat-tails of their successful predecessors!Original lyrics can be found in the first four verses of: This Youthful, Kiddy Site
Awful, lousy, horrible stench.
What junk! This film is faecal!
A flunk, it falls short of Part One.
Flop goes the sequel!
Hollywood is pooping stuff out,
Where could one critique well?
Matter from a runny nose,
Mop up the sequel!

How many thought it 'cool' and 'rad'?
How may found it equal?
More clichéd unfunny jokes.
Slop is the sequel!
Fans are crying "No, man, no!"
Endeavour for '2' as illegal,
But dolloped out, this second show,
Rotten the sequel!

They makers roll with shovelled-in pay,
Holl'wood morals are feeble.
As money pumps in, no more restraint,
Splot go more sequels!
When a screenplay earns a laugh,
Don't tamper with it, dweeb-skull!
Cuz more are tainted when spawns are cast,
Glop is the sequel!

The fun all dies, it isn't fair,
Like straws you suck in people.
We earn you lots of money, yeah,
Topped-up from sequels!
Now we're sick of all re-runs,
Your money ploys are just evil.
Kill the fad, just stick with one,
Stop those damn sequels!
Hmm, there are few parts in here I'd like to do over. Expect 'Stop Those Damn Sequels II: The Return of The Prequel' next year.

you didn't like shrek 2? didn't think that was possible

Well done. Clever title and good job of coming up with four creative verses. Of course, the way to stop them from being made is for us viewers to stop watching them.

Generally, I'd agree with you, but there have been some fabulous sequels in the past little bit! Ocean's 12, Shrek 2 and Spiderman 2 were all great. You did a fan-frickity-tastic job on this parody though. I hope that's some consolation...

Do you think Mel Gibson will make a sequel to "Passion"?

"The Second Coming of the Passion"? Thanks for all yer comments, peeps.

(SOTM) Yeah they always try to weasel their way to a few more bucks with sequels. For the most part sequels fall short of the original except for those like Back to the Future and Star Wars where the story simply continues in a natural way. Well done, Luke.

(SOTM) How can you do a parody about repetitive sequels without mentioning Rocky or Rambo? This was good without them though.
Agrimorfee - February 08, 2005 - Report this comment
(SOTM) Yeah, looking at your concluding comment, I would go back and rewrite some of this, too. (I thought Shrek 2 was funny, but not as good as The Incredibles.)

Spiderman 2, Shrek 2, Bush 2, Jeepers Creepers 2, the list goes on...

I strongly disagree; I love sequels. They're often superior to the original. That said, this was excellently written. Particularly love some of your rhymes for "sequel" (dweeb-skull, critique well). Very good.

Seconded. Pacing was a bit rough in some spots, but I agree whole-heartedly (and you gave me an excuse to 'get started'):

Shrek 2 had the great family fun and pop score of the original, without all that pesky character development or a good plotline.

I wanna strangle the guy who wrote the dialog for Spiderman 2 but other than that, I can't complain(The actual dialog seems way too overemphasized but I recognize that's a personal choice more than a valid critique). First Spiderman was better, but 2 was pretty close.

Two words: DIS-NEY. 'Alladin 2 & 3' 'Little Mermaid 2' 'Lady & the Tramp 2' 'Mulan 2' 'Beauty and Beast Christmas'... the list goes on. I swear, they're like a virus. I hope Pixar gets away from them as soon as possible and becomes their own self-promoting company.

Pixar has only done one sequal that I know of 'Toy Story 2' which was a very good movie in it's own right, and far superior to most sequels. Sorry, but you can't 'get me started' on movies. I seriously majored in it.

Rhyming was tough for this, but I thought it was a great rant.

Evidently you haven't seen The Godfather Part II. But "Flop goes the sequel" is a classic sub. Nicely done. And those Police Academy and Friday the 13th movies just keep getting better and better.
Phil Alexander - February 20, 2005 - Report this comment
Very good, Luke. And I completely agree with the sentiment :-)

SOTM - I don't agree with the general meessage about sequels since i thought spiderman and shrek 2 were both very good so i gave you 111 despite perfect pacing. No, that would be evil i voted 544. Really.
Agrimorfee - February 28, 2005 - Report this comment
Ethan--Spiderman 2 surpassed its predecessor (a rare occurrence), but Shrek 2 was blah (great animation effects, but a little too clever for it's own good).
